EVERGREEN SCHOOL DISTRICT TEACHER ON SPECIAL ASSIGNMENT – SPECIAL EDUCATION GENERAL DESCRIPTION The Special Education Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) assists the Director of Special Education in responsibilities relating to the development of programs and enriching the school experience for special education students. RESPONSIBLE TO Director of Special Education QUALIFICATIONS The TOSA holds one of the following: ? Special Education credential ? Speech Language Pathology Services credential ? Pupil Personnel Services credential The TOSA should also have advanced training and related experience in the education of individuals with exceptional needs and a specialized in-depth knowledge in the area of special education. SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Assists case managers and related providers with IEP needs and compliance. 2. Provides support and coaching to special education department staff with complex IEPs that deal with eligibility, change of placement, exiting from special education, interim placement, additional assessments, and evaluation as necessary. 3. Assists special education administrators in program planning, coordinating curricular resources and materials, evaluating the effectiveness of the programs for students with disabilities, and serves as Local Education Agency (LEA) designees for IEPs, as appropriate. 4. Provides professional development training to teachers/staff and information to parent groups and school staff regarding special education programs, services, and procedures. 5. Implements processes, protocols, and procedures for tracking student services, paperwork and timelines to ensure compliance with special education regulations. 6. Consults with administrators, general education teachers, parents, and support staff regarding instructional planning, SSTs, and 504 meetings when appropriate. 7.
