Description:  The Elementary/Secondary Teacher position works with K-8 students in general instruction.   Teacher must possess the ability to be flexible with materials and equipment available.  Position is placed on the SJCA Teacher Salary Schedule.

Executive Director or Designee

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

 

  • Support the mission, vision, and core values of San Jose Charter Academy.
  • Communicate regularly with students and their families about classroom activities and student progress.
  • Stress and practice basic safety procedures
  • Utilize a variety of teaching styles including direct instruction, practice, self-check, guided discovery, cooperative-learning using heterogeneous teams, peer coaching, and self-teaching
  • Maintain clear expectations for student behavior and achievement
  • Promote a school climate of respect for oneself, for others, for physical fitness, and for achieving one’s personal best
  • Provide all students opportunities to be successful, including students with disabilities
  • Serve as a role model for personal fitness and healthy lifestyle
  • Understand and implement school policy and procedures.
  • Instruction complements grade level standards and curriculum.
  • Record daily student attendance in student information system in a timely manner
  • Develop lesson plans that include differentiated instruction to accommodate the needs of all students.
  • Plan/schedule lesson plans
  • Involve parents and guardians as partners in their students’ education.
  • Manage student behavior to ensure every student is fully engaged.
  • Actively participate in professional development activities, and work closely with Principal, Lead teacher, Grade Level Coordinator, Specialists, and Curriculum Coordinator.
  • Maintain grade book on student information system in a timely manner and write individual, detailed reports in which you document successes, progress and next steps.
  • Identify unique student needs and collaborate with team members to effectively address those needs.
  • Assess students regularly using benchmarks, and other assessment resources.  Analyze student results; refine and differentiate classroom instruction based on assessment data and student needs.
  • Establish a culture of high expectations that includes the shared belief that every student will attend college.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve instructional practices throughout the school; share best practices.
  • Create and manage an intentional and responsive learning environment that enables students to feel safe, to be creative, and to develop to their full potential
  • Solicit constructive feedback from lead teachers, curriculum coordinators, and others who are observing instruction
  • Perform other related duties as required and assigned

Knowledge of:

 

  • Knowledge of subject matter, including state standards/frameworks
  • Knowledge of child cognitive development and various learning styles
  • Knowledge of Software and Technology Equipment
  • Knowledge of assessments

 

Ability to:

 

  • Ability and willingness to implement school vision/mission/goals
  • Ability to analyze qualitative and quantitative student data
  • Ability and willingness to reflect and improve instructional practices

Experience and Education:

Position requires a Preliminary or Clear Multiple Subject Credential for K-5 Teacher, and Single Subject Credential for 6-8th grade Teacher.  Credential authorizing instruction in the elementary or secondary levels.  Must have English Language Authorization (CLAD/BCLAD) and be No Child Left Behind Compliant, including any mandated requirements set by the California Dept. of Education Regulations.  Must be able to clear all background checks required and possess a CPR/First Aide Certificate.

 

Working Conditions:

Subject to standing, sitting, bending at the knees, lifting and reaching.  Subject to exposure to sun and communicable or infectious diseases; subject to verbal abuse from belligerent students, adults, or unauthorized visitors; exposure to sun and blood borne pathogens; subject to noise and distractions.
