Our goal is to remove barriers that keep children from getting the best start in life, and to continue to provide support and services to families throughout their children’s various stages of development, especially from the ages of 18 months to 5 years. She/he is directly responsible for working with the child in order to insure continuity of care of the children. However, because child care does require the caregivers to work as a team she/he will also be responsible for aiding in the care and supervision of all the children in the program. Performance Responsibilities: • Assist in the care, development, and instruction of children in a child care and development program under the supervision of an Associate Teacher or above • You are responsible for aiding teachers in the completion of their work, so they can leave on a timely basis • Compliance with the Federal / State / Private Funding: Desired Results, US Department of Agriculture Child Care and Adult Food Program; United Way Success x 6; NAEYC Accreditation. • You are expected to keep open communication between teacher, parents, supervisor, director, and other team members. • Contributing equally in the housekeeping tasks of the classroom and facility • Washing toys everyday • Cleaning tables with disinfectant • Taking out garbage from classrooms and other areas • Vacuuming/sweeping classrooms and other areas • Straightening the classrooms(s) • Mopping classroom floor if needed • Turning off lights • Turning off heaters/fans/air conditioner/appliances, etc. • Laundry of cotton linens on a daily basis, drying, folding, and placing in closet • Being a competent member of the child care team. This entails maintaining open communication between fellow team members, contributing equally in daily routine tasks, and being aware of the overall needs of the child’s program, and coming to others aid as needed. • Attending all staff meetings, parent meetings, and other mandatory or required in-services • Maintaining confidentiality of children, parents, and fellow staff members • Dressing appropriately in accordance with the centers established dress code policy. • Maintaining professional attitude and loyalty to the program at all times. • Lastly, you are responsible for knowing the policies of the program in regards to • Communicable disease an exclusion of sick children • First aid and medical emergency • Fire and earthquake drill and evacuation • Child abuse reporting • Discipline and Termination Qualifications: • The person selected for this position must be at least 18 years of age and have a strong desire to work with children. • 6 post secondary semesters of equivalent quarter units in early childhood education or child development completed or Accredited HERO program (including ROP) completed. • This person must have a warm, nurturing, and friendly personality, be sensitive to the feelings and needs of others, be able to relate well with children, and be willing to be a working member of the team to ensure that the children are cared for in a warm, safe and nurturing environment. • Minimum one year preference as a teacher’s assistant in a preschool setting or related program. • Willing to be fingerprinted. Child Abuse Index checked, and TB tested • Pass health screening and provide documentation • Knowledge of and ability to use, a variety of media and resources for learning. • CERTIFICATE, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS • A Child Development Assistant Permit issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing • A valid California teaching credential or Emergency California Teaching credential • Seven (7) hours of Health and Safety training and eight (8) hours of Infant/Child First Aid/CPR (possession of current certificate) or completion of such within first 6 months of employment • A valid California Driver License and maintenance of a safe driving record Skills Preferred: • Bilingual capabilities (Spanish and Vietnamese) Miscellaneous: • Training is available for this position
