JOB SUMMARY
Campus Monitor, under supervision of the RLA Director and/or the Designee, monitors the school campus in order to maintain a safe and orderly environment; and to perform related duties as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and Application of:
Maintain order and control among students and visitors on campus; Interact and communicate with problem students and/or adults; Maintain self-control and an objective point of view during stressful and/or potentially disruptive situations; Analyze situations accurately and adopt an effective course of action; Physical capability sufficient to perform job tasks as indicated on the attached pre-employment physical examination requirements for the security classifications. Provide appropriate written reports as necessary.
Ability to:
- Work confidentially
- Maintain order and control among students
- Communicate effectively (bilingual Spanish skills desired)
- Apply effective interaction and communication skills with all students including those demonstrating inappropriate behavior
- Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective courses of action
- Monitor & supervise student events, and/or unstructured recess times.
- Supervise Detention & In-house suspensions.
- Implement PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions & Supports) and/or school’s behavior policies.
- See for purposes of reading printed matter and observing students, hear and understand speech at normal levels
- Communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation
- Lift, carry, push, pull, bend, twist, stoop, kneel, run and crawl
- Perform moderate to heavy physical exertion and reach in all directions physically.
- Lift 50 pounds and carry 25 pounds
- Maintain appropriate oral and written communication skills
- Understand and carryout oral and written directions
- Establish and maintain cooperative organizational and community relationships
- Stand, sit and walk for extended periods of time
- Work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations
- Read, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies and procedures
- Meet schedules and deadlines
- Plan and organize vs utilize time management and organizational skills
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THIS POSITION
May include, but are not limited to:
- Patrol the school campus including hallways/corridors, lunchrooms, restrooms, offices, and all other areas on campus in order to insure student safety.
- Assist staff with unruly students
- May help maintain order on incoming and outgoing buses
- Gather information regarding rumors of potential violence; contact school site administrator or local police (if necessary)
- Check all school grounds during class time making sure students are in class; check on students’ who are not in class; escort students to office on referrals as necessary.
- Assist with student control at school events, athletic events and school activities.
- Provide temporary classroom coverage for teachers during emergency situations
- Gather information on suspicious people or activities; may escort non-students off campus or contact school site administrator
- Assist the site administrator or designee in holding and supervision one-hour detention
- Write reports on any serious incidents and maintain confidentiality
- May contact parents regarding notices, referrals, or detention
- Performs related duties as assigned
Education/Experience:
High School Diploma or GED required; One (1) year working with students in a supervisory capacity; training and/or experience in supervision of students desirable.
Conditions of Employment:
Possession of valid First Aid and CPR Certificates required
Possession of a valid California Drivers License is required
Salary Range: RLA– Campus Monitor Classified Salary Schedule
