Job Summary

DEFINITION The primary purpose of the position of the College and Career Counselor is to provide college and career readiness support to students and families. Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the College and Career Counselor provides guidance to students and their families and identifies the coursework and preparation needed to be college competitive and career ready. The College and Career Counselor serves as the main source of information and counseling for students and their families in the college application and financial aid processes, as well as vocational training and career preparation. The Counselor exercises responsible judgment and discretion in performing duties according to established District and State procedures and codes. The College and Career Counselor holds a key role in creating and maintaining a college-going and career-ready school culture that extends to the feeder middle and elementary schools.

Requirements / Qualifications

Qualifications for employment include completion of online training in the following areas: *New Employee Training *Preventing Workplace Violence *Bloodborne Pathogens *Sexual Harassment *Child Abuse/Mandated Reporter Upon offer of employment, candidates will receive information and directions regarding this training. Applicants must possess a valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential authorizing services in School Counseling. Interns will not be considered. M.A. or M.S. degree is required. A minimum of four (4) years teaching teaching experience in K-12 public school district in California is highly desirable. Bilingual is preferred.

Additional Salary Information: * All previous years of service accepted for placement on salary schedule, up to twenty years accepted * Upon hiring, salary placement will be determined by the number of upper division/graduate level units earned from a WASC accredited four-year college or university. Units must be earned subsequent to the date of the Bachelor's degree. * School Counselors are eligible for an annual $1,000.00 Doctoral stipend and/or an annual $1,000 National Board Certification stipend.
