Merced College is a midsized community college located in California's Central Valley. Merced College is seeking one full-time Professor of Administration of Justice/Criminal Justice beginning fall 2023 who has a passion for educating students on the intricacies of the criminal justice system. The successful candidate will bring innovative, evidence-based teaching methods that promote understanding of criminal justice to help maintain law and order within society. General Description: This is a full-time, tenure track instructional assignment in the Public Safety Department at Merced College under the general direction of the Dean of Allied Health and Public Safety. This position includes classroom instruction in Criminal Justice fields including the following:
• 
in-service training for law enforcement officers and Police Officer POST Modular Training
• obtaining certification from the State regulating body
• meeting with representatives from state regulatory departments
• implementing law and regulation changes
• meeting with representatives of agencies to assess in-service training needs and plan training
• participating in departmental area and campus professional activities/committees
• remaining current with discipline content, technology and teaching/learning strategies through participation in required professional development activities
• 
contributing to program review
• marketing and recruiting of students to grow and enhance the program
• 
Instruction will include evening and weekend hours.

Examples of Duties

Essential Functions:

• Provide innovative and effective instruction in accordance with current pedagogy and established course outlines and expectations
• Inform students about course requirements, evaluation procedures and attendance policies and maintain regular and substantive contact with students
• Maintain and submit required student attendance and scholastic records on the Learning Management System (e.g. grades and syllabi)
• Utilize the Learning Management System to deliver, prepare, and grade class assignments and examinations

• Maintain and utilize effective skills in instructional design, applications, and methods

• Post and maintain regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy
• Participate in the development and review of curriculum
• Participate in the development of teaching-learning methods and materials
• Participate in departmental, area, and campus professional activities/committees
• Represent the college within the Merced community and within professional circles
• Participate in the college's learning outcomes assessment program, including course, program, and institutional assessments to continually improve student learning outcomes

Typical Qualifications
Required:

• Bachelor's degree from an acceptable accredited institution in police science, corrections or law enforcement or related field AND two (2) years of professional experience OR
• Associate degree from an acceptable accredited institution in police science, corrections or law enforcement or related field AND six (6) years of professional experience OR
• California Community College Instructor Credential in police science OR the equivalent
• Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students
• Promote and incorporate culturally affirming DEIA and anti-racist principles to nurture and create a respectful, inclusive, and equitable learning and work environment. In conducting their duties, staff members shall respect and acknowledge the diversity of students and colleagues
