Job Summary
Under the supervision of the Director of Special Education, participates in a multidisciplinary team to provide direct therapy and consultation for students with identifying conditions named within their IEP. Works with special education staff to implement services identified within their IEP. Prepares records and reports; and performs related work as required. Involved with initial assessments and evaluates students to determine their attainment of IEP goals.

DEFINITION
Under supervision of the Principal/Director of Special Education, this person is required to participate in a multidisciplinary team to assess provide direct treatment and consultation for children with disabling conditions from ages 3 to 21. The Occupational Therapist will also work with special education staff to implement services that are part of student’s Individualized Education Plans (IEPs).
EDUCATION
Must have verification of certification by the National Board of Certification for Occupational Therapy.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
• Collaborate with district team members to provide individual. In-depth assessment of children to determine the nature and extent of motor disabilities
• Write assessment reports describing the motor development of children
• Provide on-site interpretation/summaries of assessment results to teachers and parents
• Participate in the Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meeting to develop/update annual goals/short-term objectives
• Provide direct occupational therapy service when appropriate
• Evaluate progress towards goals
• Develop and maintain records for students on the caseload
• Provide in-service training for teachers, assistants and parents in the area of specialty
• Direct the work of student interns/staff as assigned
• Provide assistance to teacher by demonstrating exercises/activities
• Consult with family/staff on appropriate implementation of educational programs as they relate to the development of motor skills
• Serve on the Student Study Team when appropriate
• Develop and maintain records for students on the caseload
• Attend site and district staff meetings as assigned
• Order equipment and materials for program
• Perform other related duties as assigned
• Provide clear communication about students, including strategies, to parents and general education students
• Maintain positive working relationships with staff members through collaboration, consultation and cooperation.

KNOWLEDGE OF:
• The intellectual, sensory and physical development of children
• Techniques used in the assessment and treatment of disabilities
• Educational/developmental needs of children with specific disabilities
• Application of occupational therapy techniques in working with children with disabilities
ABILITY TO:
• Make accurate assessment of the developmental status/educational needs of children
• Work collaboratively within a trans-disciplinary team and with families
• Make oral presentations to staff and families in large and small groups
• Communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Recommend educationally related treatment goals and implement therapy
LICENSES / OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
National Board of Certification for Occupational Therapy
Must have experience with children in school setting
Experience and strong organizational skills are desirable
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Training in sensory integration testing and techniques are desirable
