Position Information:
This is a Promotional/Open Competitive recruitment to establish an eligibility list, in order to fill 3 current vacancies.
GENERAL PURPOSE
This is a Promotional/Open Competitive recruitment to establish an eligibility list, in order to fill 3 current vacancies.
GENERAL PURPOSE
Under general supervision, performs a variety of warehouse and distribution activities; and performs related duties as assigned.
DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
An incumbent in this class performs a variety of warehouse and distribution activities; including inspections of incoming shipments, storing, shelving and rotating items, conducting inventories, pulling orders, processing U.S. and district mail and operating a vehicle to deliver orders to various District sites. Logistics Technician is distinguished from Lead Logistics Technician in that an incumbent in the latter class is responsible for leading, training and monitoring the day-to-day work performance of incumbents in the former class.
The duties listed below are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work that may be performed. The omission of specific statements of duties does not exclude them from the position if the work is similar, related or a logical assignment to this class.
1. Engages in a variety of warehouse activities; operates a forklift or pallet jack to load, unload and move items; receives, labels items and assigns storage location for goods; stocks and arranges shelves and cold storage and rotates stock as needed.
2. Participates in periodic inventories; locates, pulls and packages requested food, textbooks, educational materials, supplies, and equipment to accurately and efficiently fill orders; assists in collecting and storing surplus supplies and equipment.
3. Maintains warehouse in a safe, clean, orderly condition and follows appropriate safety and sanitation policies and procedures.
4. Delivers and picks up assigned items in a timely and safe manner to and from various District sites, including hot and cold food, materials, equipment, supplies, furniture, textbooks, and mail; operates a delivery vehicle; performs daily inspections of vehicle and notifies supervisor of any problems; maintains vehicle cleanliness; follows designated routes and schedules; May assist in storing food items upon delivery to the school site.
5. Ensures that incoming shipments meet District needs and quality standards; receives and inspects equipment, textbooks, supplies, materials and food received and reconciles shipments to purchase orders; identifies, reports and processes problem orders according to established procedures.
6. Picks up, sorts, weighs, packages, meters and records postage and distributes District and U.S. mail.
7. Maintains, reviews and updates relevant records, files, lists, logs, forms and other documentation; accurately enters data into computer system.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
1. Packaging, shipping, receiving and storing practices, procedures, methods and techniques.
2. Postal procedures and practices.
3. Basic warehouse, work practices, safety, security, health and sanitation procedures relevant to the storage and distribution of food, materials, textbooks, supplies and other items purchased and stored by a school District.
4. Basic math.
5. Traffic and safety laws and safe driving techniques.
6. Proper lifting techniques.
Ability to:
1. Safely operate warehouse equipment and vehicles, including a delivery truck, forklift and pallet jack.
2. Perform heavy physical labor; lift, push, or pull up to 100 lbs.
3. Inspect incoming shipments and compare to purchase orders.
4. Complete and maintain records and forms related to warehouse operations.
5. Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
6. Write legible reports.
7. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those encountered in the course of work.
8. Take inventory on a regular basis.
9. Follow rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
10. Operate a computer and other standard office equipment.
11. Read and understand maps and delivery directions.
12. Observe legal and defensive driving practices.
13. Sort and meter mail.
Education, Training, and Experience:
A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or a G.E.D. equivalent; and one year of progressively responsible warehouse experience; or some combination of education, training and experience that produces the requisite knowledge and ability. Experience in a public agency is preferred.
Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
- A valid California driver's license, Class B, with no restrictions and air brake designation.
- Proof of insurability
- A valid Forklift certification is required. Incumbents in this class must maintain active certification in accordance with applicable laws and regulations.
