COUNSELOR GENERAL DESCRIPTION: Under the direction of the Principal, provide age appropriate personal support enabling students, parents, and staff to make sound decisions about academic, educational, college, vocational, and personal problems, opportunities, needs, and conflicts; plan, coordinate and organize high school counseling activities, train and provide work direction and guidance to assigned personnel. DUTIES AND AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY: ? Meet with students, parents, and staff to identify college, academic, vocational, and personal problems, opportunities, needs, and conflicts. ? Support and guide students in making healthy decisions about attendance, behavior, future plans, and other areas as needed by working directly with students individually and in small groups. ? Maintain accurate and timely student records and maintain their confidentiality. ? Develop and maintain contacts with social service, law enforcement, private and public agencies to the benefit of students. ? Participate in school-wide training, decision making, and related activities to provide the counseling perspective to school management and staff. ? Assign students to appropriate course offerings to meet their needs and goals. ? Develop the Master Schedule. ? Maintain accurate records of student, parent and staff contacts. ? Meet with assigned departments or designated organizational units (i.e. teams, career schools, etc.) ? Assist with supervision as assigned. ? Assist in the development and delivery of the registration process for new and continuing students. ? Conduct necessary meetings. ? Plan, organize, and or assist with testing programs. ? Organize the orientation program for feeder schools and the registration of 8th grade students. ? Coordinate work experience program. ? S.A.T and A.C.T. test coordination. ? Provide coordination of local awards. ? Supervises and directs the guidance and career technicians. ? Assist in preparation of annual guidance budget. ? Perform other related duties as needed. Ability to work in the elements (extreme temperatures). QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: 1. Effective counseling techniques. 2. School and district procedures and policies related to students learning, behavior and welfare. 3. Laws pertaining to minors. 4. Vocational and college requirements. 5. District and school curriculum. 6. Standardize testing procedures and interpretation. 7. Master schedule development and maintenance. Ability to: 1. Counsel students, parents, and staff. 2. Maintain records as required. 3. Remain calm while resolving conflicts with diverse participants under stress. 4. Provide fair, equitable treatment of all students, parents, and staff. 5. Contribute to the successful fulfillment of the District Mission. 6. Work cooperatively with others. 7. Conduct responsibilities of the position based on information and instructions provided in English. 8. Utilize conflict resolution. 9. Learn and appropriately apply district policies and procedures and other regulations related to the position. 10. Maintain appropriate confidentiality about students, school, staff, and district activities. 11. Manage time and other resources to meet the needs of all assigned students. 12. Use computer and data entry terminals. 13. Learn and apply current technology to assigned duties. Education/ Experience: Graduate level training pupil personnel, Masters Degree and three years classroom teaching or counseling preferred. Required: *Valid California Pupil Personnel Services Credential *Possess a valid California Drivers License *Finger Printing *TB Test *Drug Test TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 199 Days COMPENSATION: Management Salary Schedule B.
