TITLE OF POSITION: Dean of Students, Secondary
A. Primary Function: Provides proactive leadership to engage all stakeholders in the delivery of programs and services to support the students academic achievement, personal and social development. Assists the principal in providing instructional leadership and social emotional programs and supports for all students. Works cooperatively with principal, counselor, staff, students, and parents towards a positive school climate.
B. Directly Responsible to: Site/Program Administrator
C. Representative Duties:

Daily tracking of student discipline and attendance. E

Develops and monitors interventions and programs for maintaining positive student behavior. E

Assists the principal in development, implementation, and evaluation of efforts related to student academic achievement; ensures that the school meets or makes satisfactory progress towards district standards. E

Assigns, trains, supervises, evaluates staff. Requests new staff as needed. Interviews and recommends the employment of certificated personnel for the site. Assist principal in assigning faculty and staff as appropriate to meet school objectives. E

Conducts student and parent conferences and communicates with families on matters involving discipline, attendance, and/or truancy. E

Guides and supports a standards based curriculum, instruction, and assessments that address student outcomes. E

Supervises a fair and consistent student discipline policy. E

Assists in supervision and management of student registration, school communication, and state or district assessments, E
-
Works closely with administration on special projects and services as they relate to Title I, Intervention, and other health and counseling programs available for students. E
12. Coordinates and meets with school site advisory groups; conducts student/parent appeals; responds to and resolves parent, student, and staff complaints under the supervision of the principal. E
14. Assists with the implementation of staff development and inservice training; updates staff on revised policies and procedures and implements changes.
15. Supports the principal with completion of periodic reports to the State, Superintendent or designee, and other reports as authorized or directed.
16. Assists in the development and implementation of identification and early intervention programs that address special needs and at-risk students. E
17. Promotes positive and effective relationships among staff, students, and parents. E
18. Supervises throughout the school day and after school hours events that can include, dances, assemblies, parent/student events, and other school activities. E
19. Assists in identification of interventions and case management of students demonstrating mild to critical at-risk behaviors.
20. Serves as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues. E
21. Responsible for being knowledgeable and current relative to District, State, and Federal policies, laws, and regulations as they relate to the school and its programs; administers District and school site policies and safety programs. E
22. Serves on various district committees as directed by the principal, Superintendent or designee.
23. Performs other related duties as assigned.
D. Education and Experience:
Appropriate valid California Clear Teaching Credential
Valid California Administrative Services Credential
Completed a Master’s Degree
Valid California driver’s license
At least three (3) years of increasing responsibility in teaching, counseling and/or administrative experiences in education
E. Qualifications:
Knowledge of:
High School curriculum, instruction, interventions, student services (including special education), program and student assessment, and staff development skills and strategies.
School climate building, collaborative teaching, collegial support and working with parent groups
Positive Behavior/Instructional Systems (PBIS)
Board and District policies, procedures, regulations, and bargaining agreements
Various technologies used in teaching and learning
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy
Abilities to:
Communicate effectively orally and in writing
Work in a diverse socio-economic and multicultural community
Maintain consistent, punctual and regular attendance
Assist in building an effective master schedule using allocations of staff directed by Business Services and Human Relations
Supervise and evaluate the performance of assigned staff
Systematically analyze problems to determine alternative solutions
Meet schedules and deadlines
Complete work with many interruptions.
Maintain records and exercise confidentiality
Use a computer or other technology-based equipment
