MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS • Holds a valid and current Multiple Subject Preliminary with Supplementary Authorization in Music; English Language Learner Authorization or CLAD certificate required, or Single Subject Preliminary or Clear Credential in Music or comparable subject • Bachelor’s Degree, including all courses needed to meet credential requirements • Two semesters of student teaching or two years of full-time elementary classroom experience • Meets District standards for physical and mental health • Good to superior recommendations from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics, scholastic attainment, and classroom performance of the teacher INSTRUMENTAL MUSIC QUALIFICATIONS • Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge and technical ability on the following instruments: violin, cello, flute, clarinet, trumpet, trombone, and percussion. • Ability to demonstrate basic music keyboard skills. • Ability to tune string instruments (violin, viola, cello, bass). • Performance level proficiency on one or more instruments. • Knowledge and ability to do minor instrument repairs. GENERAL MUSIC QUALIFICATIONS • Ability to demonstrate basic knowledge of musical terminology, recorder, and vocal technique. • Ability to demonstrate basic music keyboard skills. • Knowledge and ability to arrange and transpose music, as needed, to improve instruction and student success. • Orr and Kodaly experience, preferred. • Vocal performance proficiency. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS • Depth of training in one or more areas of the elementary school curriculum • Knowledge of current trends and research concerning the growth and development of elementary age children • Previous classroom teaching experience at more than one grade level and in several different school settings. • A broad experience in a variety of professional assignments requiring the application of specialized skills and talents
