JOB DESCRIPTION
JOB TITLE: Library/Media Technician

Job Purpose Statement/s: The job of “Library/Media Technician” is done for the purpose/s of maintaining library collection at school site; implementing age appropriate programs for students utilizing library resources; selecting appropriate items in support of classroom instruction-research and educating students on the proper use of the library collection and computer resources.
Essential Job Functions:
•Assists teachers, students, and other personnel for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.
•Conducts classes in a variety of formats (e.g. story telling, puppet plays, etc.) for the purpose of promoting the use and enjoyment of literature.
•Distributes various books and media for the purpose of providing requested classroom reference materials.
•Instructs students for the purpose of educating them on the proper use of the library resources (i.e. computers, classification system, card catalog, care of materials, etc.).
•Processes orders (e.g. books, periodicals, films, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining library collection controls.
•Researches availability of materials and media for the purpose of selecting appropriate items.
Other Job Functions:
•Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of supporting them in the completion of their work activities.
•Coordinates media requests of individuals sites for the purpose of ensuring availability of audiovisual resources for instructional use.
•Directs student workers, volunteers, etc. who assist in the library for the purpose of ensuring assignments are completed appropriately.
•Inventories equipment and materials in library collection for the purpose of documenting losses and/or maintaining availability of materials.
•Participates in meetings for the purpose of communicating information and gaining feedback and/or direction on a variety of issues.
•Promotes library use related to special holidays, seasonal activities, etc. for the purpose of motivating students to use the library resources.
•Repairs books for the purpose of ensuring the availability of books.
Job Requirements – Qualifications:
•Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge to perform basic math including fractions, percents, and ratios; to read a variety of manuals; write correspondence, memos, reports, etc., usually in prescribed formats, and/or speak before groups in English; to apply common sense understanding of detailed multi-step instructions in a combination of written, oral and diagrammatic form.
Skills to perform multiple specialized and/or technical tasks. Specific skills to apply pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; communicate with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds; operate library equipment; standard office equipment including computers and software applications appropriate to assignment; perform standard bookkeeping/accounting procedures; plan and manage projects; prepare and maintain accurate records.
Abilities to deal with a level of complexity of tasks that require significant flexibility of date; types, uses and/or sources of data; interaction with people and/or requests that frequently change. Specific abilities to adhere to safety practices; be attentive to detail; implement established curriculum; meet deadlines and schedules; work under time constraints; be flexible.
•Responsibility: In relationship to – people includes leading, guiding, and/or coordinating; financial matters is monitoring the use of funds. Overall scope of responsibility is moderate and work is subject to some review and checking.
•Working Environment: The job functions are generally performed in an indoor environment with the requirement to have the following significant physical abilities: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; stooping, kneeling, crouching and or/crawling; reaching, handling, and/or feeling; sensory speaking, hearing and visual.
•Educational Requirements: High school diploma or equivalent.
•Licensing, Certifications, Testing Requirements: Fingerprint/criminal justice clearance; Tuberculosis clearance.
