Central Union High School District is looking for highly-motivated individuals to join our team as Security Guards to ensure the safety and security of the school buildings, equipment, staff, and students; patrol the school campus, parking lot, and adjacent areas to observe behavior of students or visitors and deter inappropriate behavior; to assist in maintaining a trouble-free campus; and to perform related duties as required. The qualified applicant will have one year of experience in security, or similar experience. The ideal candidate will be able to communicate effectively with students and campus visitors to explain rules and procedures, and will have a proven history of good attendance.

CENTRAL UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT Classified Job Description/March 1995 Classification: 13 (reclassification 9/00) SECURITY GUARD DEFINITION: Under general supervision of the site administrator, to insure the safety and security of the school buildings, equipment, staff and students; to patrol the school campus, parking lot, and/or adjacent areas to observe behavior of students or visitors and deter inappropriate behavior; to assist in maintaining a trouble-free campus; and to perform related duties as required. EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: Maintains a station or patrols assigned school campus areas and facilities; observes students and adults to insure proper behavior or to report unusual or improper activities; may direct and/or escort unauthorized person(s) from the campus area; insures that students report to classrooms or quietly utilize campus facilities during free periods, lunches, and breaks, and the arrival and departure from school premises; prevents stealing from cars and lockers; dissuades noisy or destructive activities, ameliorates arguments and fights, and prevents student smoking, use of drugs and alcohol, vandalism, intrusion by strangers and other improper behavior or incursions; assists teachers and other personnel in the control of students; alerts administrators of major problems by use of communications system or other means, varies patrol procedure so as not to present a definite system or routine; becomes familiar with students, cars, and school and district personnel and maintains friendly student relations; avoids overly authoritarian manner so as to maintain on open, non-hostile relationship; exercises mature judgment, reporting objectively and avoiding emotional or defensive involvement; written reports should be legible and accurate; may contact and cooperate with local law enforcement officials regarding any situation requiring immediate or prompt attention; makes recommendations for improving security system and purchase of materials and equipment; may be assigned custodial, building and maintenance repair work on days that school is not in session. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Possession of a valid California driver’s license; a valid CPR card (3 week grace period) and a valid Advanced First Aid Card (8 week grace period). DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of and Ability to: Remain alert and use good judgment in noticing and reporting unusual circumstances; deal effectively with unruly individuals; understand and carry out oral and written directions; ability to gain confidence and cooperation of students; ability to read and write; and speak Spanish and English fluently. EXPERIENCE: One year of previous and similar supervision or police experience, or any combination of experience and training which would indicate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above. PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Maturity, above average intelligence, emotional stability, good health, size and agility appropriate for position.
