JOB DESCRIPTION Grossmont Union High School District PLUMBER Purpose Statement: The job of Plumber is done for the purpose/s of maintaining plumbing systems to provide comfort, sanitation and safety within facilities; meeting appropriate craft related accessibility codes for students, staff and the public and meeting other building code/s (i.e. safety and health); providing information and documentation of activities; ensuring adequate materials are available for timely completion of job functions. Incumbents in this classification provide students, staff and the public with well-maintained and safe building infrastructure and facilities which directly supports learning. This job reports to Executive Director, School Construction & Building Services Essential Functions • Coordinates with district personnel and other trades for the purpose of completing projects/work orders efficiently. • Estimates time and material costs for the purpose of determining costs for specific jobs. • Installs plumbing systems and fixtures (e.g. sinks, hot water heaters, drinking fountains, pipes, etc.) for the purpose of providing comfort, sanitation and safety within facilities. • Maintains supplies, equipment and tools for the purpose of ensuring adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner. • Orders supplies, equipment and tools for the purpose of ensuring that adequate materials are available to complete assignments in a timely manner. • Prepares written materials (e.g. work orders, requisitions, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference and/or conveying information. • Renovates plumbing systems for the purpose of meeting appropriate accessibility for students, staff, public and/or building code/s . • Repairs school site plumbing, fixtures, gas fired radiant and space heaters and/or evaporative coolers (e.g. broken gas/water/sewer lines, irrigation systems, kitchen equipment, dishwashers, toilets, faucets, etc.) for the purpose of providing renovation and preventive maintenance of plumbing systems. • Responds to emergency situations (e.g. broken plumbing, drainage problems, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns. • Transports various items (e.g. equipment, supplies, etc.) for the purpose of providing materials at job site as required to complete tasks. Other Functions • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of ensuring an efficient and effective work environment. SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a potential need to upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skills required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying pertinent codes, policies, regulations and/or laws; operating equipment used in skilled trades; and planning and managing projects. KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; read a variety of manuals, write documents following prescribed formats, and/or present information to others; and solve practical problems. Specific knowledge required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job includes: health standards and hazards; safety practices and procedures; methods, materials and equipment used in plumbing installations, alteration and repair. ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather and/or collate data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined and similar processes; and operate equipment using a variety of processes. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with similar types of data; and utilize a variety of types of job-related equipment. In working with others, Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Specific abilities required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: adapting to changing work environment and/or priorities; adhering to safety practices; meeting deadlines and schedules; working under time constraints; and being attentive to details. Responsibility Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; providing information and/or advising others; and operating within a defined budget. Working Environment The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 45% walking, and 45% standing. The job is performed under with some temperature extremes and some hazardous conditions.
