 BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the Athletic Director, the Head Varsity Volleyball Coach position is responsible for coaching student athletes in competitive Volleyball techniques to prepare them for events or competition. The Volleyball Coach position motivates student athletes to develop an appreciation of the sport.

 ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

 Know and be committed to Excelsior’s Vision, Mission, and Values.

  • Works with athletes during all practices and events.
  • Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages students to participate.
  • Assesses skills and assigns team positions.
  • Develops a regular practice schedule and organizes practice time to provide both individual and team development.
  • Works with the athletic director in scheduling facilities for practices and competition.
  • Coaches and instructs athletes, individually or in groups, regarding the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport.
  • Observes athletes during events and practice to determine the needs for individual or team improvement.
  • Monitors the academic performance of team members to ensure that eligibility requirements are met.
  • Follows established procedures in the event of an injury.
  • Conferences with parents/guardians, as necessary, regarding the performance of their student.
  • Follows state, regional, and district regulations governing the program.
  • Models sports-like behavior and maintains appropriate conduct towards athletes, officials, and spectators.
  • Acts as a team representative and promotes the team by communicating with the media, and other organizations.
  • Follows established procedures for supplies and uniforms.
  • Works with the athletic director to develop a policy for awards and submits a list of award winners at the end of the season.
  • Participates in special activities to include parent’s night, banquets, award nights, and pep rallies.
  • Models nondiscriminatory practices in all activities.
  • Assist with other such duties as may be assigned.

 KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

 KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Laws, rules and regulations related to Charter Schools, including applicable sections of the State Education Code and Board policies or other applicable laws.
  • Rules, regulations, strategies, and techniques of the sport.

 ABILITY TO:

  • Demonstrate outstanding interpersonal, organizational, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
  • Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior and provides proper supervision of students at all times.
  • Maintain eligibility forms, emergency data cards, insurance records, equipment inventory, and other related records.
  • Be an active listener and have positive, professional interactions at all levels and in all situations in order to maintain effective relations with students, staff, parents and community members.
  • Work independently and participate as a team member in a collaborative environment.
  • Build a championship-caliber athletic team.

 QUALIFICATIONS:

 A High School Diploma or Equivalent.

  • Two to four years experience as Varsity Volleyball Coach
  • Maintain effective working relationships with school administrators, parents, and students.
  • Must possess effective coaching techniques and skills.
  • Must have a valid driver's license with a good driving record and reliable transportation
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Current Concussion Training Certification

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Various community events
  • Irregular or extended work hours.
  • Requires moderate lifting, 15-50 pounds.
  • Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 30% walking, and 60% standing
  • Will require travel to various locations.
