DESCRIPTION OF BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: To create an instructional program and maintain a class environment favorable to learning and personal growth; to establish effective rapport with students; to motivate students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for elementary grades and secondary education in accordance with each student's ability; to establish good relationship with parents and other staff members. SUPERVISOR: Principal TYPICAL DUTIES: Utilizes visual and performing arts course of study adopted by the Board of Trustees in teaching curriculum and programs to students. Instructs students in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the RUSD course of study specified in state and district laws, policy and/or procedures. Provides planned learning experiences in order to motivate students and best utilize the available time for instruction. Develops and assists in the coordination of instructional units within the assigned school and/or district. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. Evaluates pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members and parents in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude and learning problems. Creates a functional and attractive environment for learning. Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the district and/or self-selected professional growth activities. Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required. Selects and requisitions books, instructional aids and instructional supplies, and maintains required inventory records. Insures a comfortable room environment through control of heating, lighting and ventilation to the extent possible. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. Participates in or assists with curriculum development and/or other developmental programs at the school and/or district level. Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees. Performs related duties as assigned. EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS: Bachelor's degree and California teaching credential in the area of visual and performing arts. DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Teaching experience at grade level or subject area assigned; Master's Degree and/or post graduate course work. GOALS OF EFFECTIVE PERFORMANCE: To participate in the planning, implementing and evaluating of the best possible visual and performing arts program for children in consideration of the needs of the students. DESCRIPTION OF PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Medical Category I 1. Position requires normal physical strength and endurance for standing, sitting, bending, or walking. 2. Work assignments are normally located in a work environment with light physical work and requires light physical effort. 3. Lifting 25 pounds maximum or carrying any object weighing over 15 pounds.
