Requirements / Qualifications

The impact you will have: The Director of Human Resources leads a 17-person team to recruit, support, and retain our more than 3,000 employees and substitutes at San José Unified. This role requires a combination of strong analytics and strategic thinking, excellent communication and collaboration skills, and the ability to design and implement scaled processes. The Director must be able to build trusting relationships with diverse stakeholders and act with a sense of urgency to support the needs of San José Unified. The key areas of work the Director manages include: -Recruitment and hiring – San José Unified welcomes approximately 500 new team members each year, from custodians and teachers to substitutes and athletic coaches to short-term contractors; we also process approximately 3,500 volunteer applications each year -Substitute desk – manages our team of nearly 400 substitutes and ensures coverage across our 41 school sites each day -Payroll and benefits setup – collaborates closely with the payroll and fiscal teams to ensure employee data is accurate and employees are correctly compensated -Leaves, accommodations, and workers compensation – ensures our employees are supported and helps them to return to work as soon as they are able -Union relations and contract management – accurately implements each of our three union contracts and collaborates with union partners to make improvements -Compliance – ensures we follow all applicable regulations, including credentialing, tuberculosis, data reporting, etc. In addition to the day-to-day work above, the Director leads and supports strategic initiatives. In the future, this role may also include other aspects of talent management, such as professional development, evaluations, and employee discipline.
