Bilingual Instructional Assistant position at Shirley Rominger Intermediate School Under supervision, to perform paraprofessional instructional activities as directed by a certificated employee; to provide intensified learning experiences for students in assigned areas; to provide a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for teachers and students and to do related work as required. Must be fluently bilingual both written and oral as determined by District Spanish proficiency test.

INSTRUCTIONAL AIDE – BILINGUAL                                    CLASSIFIED PERSONNEL

 

 

 

DEFINITION

Under supervision, to perform paraprofessional instructional activities as directed by a certificated employee; to provide intensified learning experiences for students who speak limited or no English; to provide a variety of clerical and supportive tasks for teachers and students; to translate, write or converse in a foreign language and to do related work as required.  Positions assigned to this class are distinguished by the regular assignment of a majority of duties that require translation of materials in a foreign language and tutoring of small groups of students in a foreign language.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists instructional personnel with the presentation of learning materials
  • Tutors individuals and small groups of students who may speak limited or no English
  • Monitors and assists students in activities such as drills, practices and study research after lessons and instructions have been given by the teacher
  • Oversees and supervises students during classroom activities and field trips
  • Reads to students, explains words and meanings, rephrases materials and provides similar learning examples
  • Scores tests and computes and records grades
  • Types tests, reports, memorandum, stencils and other materials related to instruction
  • Observes students at lunch or play and maintains discipline
  • Assists students in using audiovisual equipment, finding reference material and utilizing library resources
  • Participates in parent and teacher conferences to discuss students’ progress and adjustment
  • Assists in the preparation of instructional material
  • To assure the effective functioning of the school, other reasonable duties may be assigned

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade

Some verifiable work experience with young people

Pass the District proficiency test in English and proficient in oral and written Spanish
