High School English Teacher at Marin Academy

Marin Academy seeks an experienced English teacher for a full-time position beginning in August 2023. The MA English Department values a student-centered, inquiry-based approach to teaching that balances content mastery with an emphasis on skill development. The goal of the department is to cultivate critical habits of mind around collaboration, risk-taking, and interdisciplinary thinking. Our curriculum asks students to see the world in a multi-dimensional way, stretching them to understand and value differences while simultaneously encouraging them to develop individualism and authenticity in voice. Successful candidates will have a degree in English and a strong desire to teach core ninth or tenth grade courses in addition to upper level English and humanities elective courses. Preferred candidates will have a strong background in the teaching of writing, a demonstrated interest in working collaboratively within and across departments, and the inclination and experience to work in a diverse community focused on issues of equity and social justice.

Optional Leadership Opportunity: For the right candidate, this position could be combined with a .25 Class Dean position. Class Deans at Marin Academy are focused on leading and supporting students in a given grade, both by creating proactive, culture-building environments/experiences and by attending to issues that arise. Along with 75% teaching, Deans engage with students and families one-on-one and in large groups; manage student concerns; provide consultation and training to adults in the community, especially advisors; and plan and organize advisory meetings, class meetings, orientations, and other events and experiences.
Salary Range: Teachers at Marin Academy are paid according to a published salary scale, with steps for years of experience and degrees earned. A teacher with 5-10 years of experience and a Master’s degree can expect to earn between $87,000-$103,000 per year.
