Responsible for teaching Spanish I and Spanish II, and an advanced Spanish course (IB Spanish B). Must be a credentialed single-subject science teacher or in the process of earning a credential in Spanish, interested in project-based approaches to teaching and learning, and must be interested in collaboration.. ACE Charter High School TEACHER BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Under the direction of the principal and in collaboration with fellow teachers and other instructional staff, teachers at ACE strive constantly to refine their instructional strategies in order to ensure high levels of academic achievement. With a focus on results, teachers at ACE meet frequently with their peers to review student work, develop common assessments and rubrics and share best practices in a never ending effort to improve instruction. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Teaches content and skills in assigned areas of study utilizing curriculum and instructional materials adopted by the Board of Directors. 2. Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communications skills, and other general elements of the course of study common to all teachers, as specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district. 3. Differentiates instructional materials and methods to better serve the unique needs of all students. 4. Incorporates CTE standards into the core areas of instruction and works with guest instructors and lecturers consistent with ACE goals and philosophy. 5. Designs lessons appropriate to the goals and philosophy of ACE and to the interests and maturity levels of pupils. 6. Utilizes a wide variety of instructional strategies including individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs and respective learning styles of each student. 7. Collaborates with other instructional staff to design and implement research-based intervention programs for students who have not mastered standards and/or achieved success commensurate with their potential. 8. Conveys daily learning goals in student friendly language aimed at making explicit what students will be able to achieve at the end of each lesson. 9. Encourages pupils to think independently and to express original ideas. 10. Evaluates each student’s progress in terms of their mastery of course concepts and standards. Provides multiple opportunities and modalities for students to demonstrate learning. 11. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment. 12. Maintains professional competence through participation in professional development activities provided by ACE and/or in self-selected professional growth activities. 13. Collaborates with peers to incorporate project-based assessments and learning opportunities into the curriculum. 14. Works to actively motivate students to succeed and strives always to remove barriers to student success. 15. Regularly provides assessments for learning (formative assessments) and analyzes student achievement on such assessments for the purpose of identifying learning gaps and adjusting instructional strategies and re-teaching skills to close such gaps. 16. Is comfortable with and makes frequent and appropriate use of educational technology. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Identifies student needs, and collaborates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils achieve academic success. 2. Communicates with parents on the individual pupil's progress. 3. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities and projects as necessary. 4. Administers or monitors standardized and/or required assessments. 5. Requisitions instructional materials and supplies, and maintains required inventory records. 6. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. May teach under modular or flexible scheduling plans. 7. Performs basic attendance accounting and business services as required. 8. Shares in the sponsorship of student activities and participates in faculty committees. 9. May plan and coordinate the work of student tutors and/or paraeducators. Credentials: Current Valid Teaching Credential appropriate to the assignment including EL authorization. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS: Must be able to bend, stoop, reach, lift and stand for prolonged periods; see to read fine print and for depth perception; use hands and fingers to perform tasks; speak clearly and hear well enough to communicate effectively. SUPERVISION EXERCISED OR RECEIVED: Under the immediate direction of the Principal.
