The special education instructional assistant assists the teacher in ways determined by the teacher to be useful in improving the quality of educational opportunities, including clerical duties, the supervision of pupils, and instructional tasks which, in the judgment of the teacher may be performed by a non-credentialed employee. The work need not be performed in the presence of the teacher, but the teacher retains responsibility for the instruction and supervision. INSTRUCTIONAL ASSISTANT
DEFINITION
The Instructional Aide I assists the teacher in achieving educational goals and objectives by working with individual students or small/large groups.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
• Assists individuals or small groups of individuals with assignments under the supervision of the teacher.
• Assists teachers with the preparation and reinforcement of the presentation of learning materials and in the performance of other instructional activities.
• Monitors and assists students in drill, study, and research activities after lessons and instructions have been provided by the teacher, or as designed by the teacher.
• Prepares special teaching demonstrations using a variety of aides and techniques to reinforce skill or learning.
• Assists students in the classroom in academic, social and behavioral areas, including small group and individual instruction under the supervision of the classroom teacher.
• Assist in maintaining a neat, orderly and safe learning environment.
• Assists in monitoring a variety of tests; corrects tests and work sheets.
• Supervises student activities as directed by teacher.
• Organizes work areas and assembles learning materials, study aids, art supplies, or assignment folders; assists in keeping study areas orderly; may order supplies or audio visual materials; inventories classroom supplies, books or equipment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• A.A. degree, 48 units beyond the high school diploma, or passage of district or county test in reading, math, and writing per the federal No Child Left Behind Act.
• TB test clearance.
• Criminal Justice fingerprint clearance.
Knowledge of:
Correct English usage, spelling, grammar, and punctuation; games, arts and crafts, and other activities suitable for students; basic math operations; first aid/CPR practices.
Ability to:
Sit and stand for prolonged periods, understand and carry out oral and written instructions, maintain confidentiality of student records, meet schedules and deadlines, work accurately and with attention to detail, read/interpret/apply rules, regulations, policies. Significant physical abilities include lifting, carrying, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, handling, fingering, speaking, hearing, near/far visual acuity/visual accommodation, communicating.
Experience:
Experience in supervising/organizing children's activities; experiences with students in school settings are desirable but not required.

Upon Conditional Offer of Employment - DOJ and FBI Criminal Background Check - TB Test (within 60 days of start date) - CPR/First Aid Certification - Complete district training on Mandated Reporter, Covid 19, and Sexual Harassment - Pre-Employment Physical Evaluation conducted through the District. Lift test included (MIN 50 lbs).
