THE POSITION: Under the direction of the principal, the assistant principal is responsible for carrying out a variety of administrative and supervisory responsibilities, including strengthening student accountability; maintaining a positive learning environment; promoting the social, emotional, and intellectual development of the students; communicating and implementing school goals and policies; fostering teamwork among students and staff; and complying with Board established rules, regulations, and policies. The Assistant Principal is expected to have a strong academic background with demonstrated success growing achievement levels of a diverse representation of learners. As the coordinator for the Instructional Leadership Team, they must also understand and support a teacher-led model of decision-making. They will be responsible for fostering a positive and safe school culture that fosters learning and discipline in academics and the arts. The position requires progressive knowledge and experience in specialized subject matter and curriculum, educational programs and services, as well as Special Education and facilitation of the IEP process. The Assistant Principal will directly supervise and evaluate certificated and classified staff; provide instructional administrative leadership to the professional staff; plan, direct, assist, and supervise the work performed by teachers, clerical, and facilities staff; and perform related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Experience: Three or more years of secondary administrative leadership experience (non-teaching administrative leadership experience) Education: A Master’s degree in education or a closely related field from an institution of higher learning accredited by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. License or Certificate (Must attached detailed certification/credential with document number to application): Possess and maintain a valid Supervisory or Administrative Services Credential.
