BASIC FUNCTION:

Under the direction of the site Principal, works a flexible schedule to assist in the monitoring of students on school grounds, parking lots, and areas adjacent to the school to ensure proper conduct and maximum class attendance.  Employees in this classification receive general supervision of the Principal: Student Affairs within a well-defined framework of policies and procedures.  Exercises responsibility for enforcing school rules and regulations pertaining to student behavior, other and conduct. 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

¨       Patrols school grounds, corridors, restrooms, parking lots and adjacent areas for the purpose of enforcing District’s and school’s rules and regulations as they pertain to student attendance, behavior and conduct.

¨       Monitors student behavior, correcting improper and unruly activities on the spot and reporting major infractions to the school administration.

¨       Intercedes in and resolves student fights and arguments.

¨       Escorts students to class or to proper administrative office.

¨       Checks students in hall during class time for proper authorization.

¨       Maintains discipline and order on campus and at school activities and events as assigned.

¨       Directs non-student or suspended students to leave school grounds and escorts parents and visitors to proper office or classroom.

¨       Under supervision, searches lockers and other areas as assigned.

¨       Monitors students in and around cafeteria and on campus during lunch periods.

¨       Writes and prepares conduct referrals and reports to appropriate office regarding student behavior violations.

¨       Performs security checks of buildings and grounds as necessary.

¨       Checks parking lots periodically.

¨       Reports signs of vandalism to proper authority.

¨       May be assigned to supervise the detention program at assigned school: taking roll and verifying clearance of penalties.

¨       Operate a two-way radio to communicate with school administrators, staff and other campus personnel.

¨       Responds to emergency situations, and takes appropriate action in accordance with established guidelines; provides basic first aid services, as necessary.

¨       Perform related duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

            Education:

¨       A high school diploma or equivalent.           

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge of:

¨       Correct English usage, grammar and punctuation.

¨       District, State and school laws, rules and regulations related to assigned activities.

¨       Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

¨       Basic record-keeping techniques.

¨       Basic first aid and CPR procedures.

Ability to:

¨       Relate well with students and adults.

¨       Analyze situations accurately and adopt effective course(s) of action.

¨       Exercise tact, diplomacy, and good judgment in dealing with students and adults.

¨       Apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.

¨       Manage large groups of students in active situations.

¨       Use appropriate judgment in reacting to diverse and emergency situations.

¨       Set a high standard in speech, manners, and morals as an example for the students.

¨       Patrol and monitor campus to maintain order and security in a school setting.

¨       Communicate effectively with students and staff.

¨       Assure student compliance with school and District policies and regulations.

¨       Analyze situations accurately and adopt and effective course of action.

¨       Retain composure in stressful and difficult situations.

¨       Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

¨       Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.

¨       Prepare and maintain routine records.

¨       Administer basic first aid and CPR as needed.

License:

¨       Valid California Driver's License.
