Job Description
SUMMARY:
Under the direction of an assigned manager, coordinate comprehensive First Year Experience (FYE) activities for first-time to college students as well as provide training to peer mentors. The First Year Experience Coordinator is responsible for overall implementation and coordination of programs for new students at Grossmont College. First Year Experience programs include orientation, college success classes/workshops and welcome events. The Coordinator will collaborate with a variety of staff across the college including Outreach and Engagement Coordinators, Institutional Effectiveness, and department faculty chairs in an effort to increase first year student success and retention.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Plans, organizes and coordinates First Year Experience program and activities, including but not limited to, school visits, recruitment fairs, community event presentations, information booths, open houses and college tours; arranges and schedules local and high school visits to the College to provide general college recruitment to the First Year Experience Program.
• Assist in the coordination of matriculation activities for first-time students from local area high schools, including placement, orientation, and first semester course planning in both live and online formats.
• In conjunction with the College and Community Relations department to develop and implement marketing and recruitment strategies for First Year Experience empathizing the value of the program of college success. Designs and distributes to local area high schools and designated locations in the community a variety of marketing and publicity materials, including but not limited to college brochures and flyers, social media campaigns, information booths, display tables; ensures that materials are consistent with other College publications.
• Establishes and maintains positive relationships and partnerships with local community leaders, college administrators, teachers, counselors and other parties.
• Assist in coordinating new and existing first year services programs in collaboration with academic departments and support service programs.
• Work with Student Services departments to plan, organize, and implement an extended admissions, placement and orientation program in multiple locations for new students to encourage students to join the First Year Experience program.
• Research new trends and innovations in the field of First Year Experience programs related to social media and other student communication methods.
• Collaborate with various college departments to provide opportunities for student engagement and involvement to promote student success.
• Supervise assigned employees including student peer mentors.
• Work with college personnel to coordinate activities with various student success and equity initiatives on campus.
• Prepare and monitor program budget; control and approve expenditures within established guidelines.
SECONDARY FUNCTIONS:
• Gather data and prepare reports related to First Year Experience in collaboration with Institutional Effectiveness, track student enrollment and retention statistics, regarding program success and impact. Evaluates progress of new student programs to ensure continuous improvement and growth.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Any combination equivalent to: a Bachelor's Degree and four years of increasingly responsible experience in outreach functions.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS: Valid California driver's license and ability to qualify for District vehicle insurance coverage.
WORKING CONDITIONS: College office environment; travel within the community; subject to frequent interaction with students, staff, and the public; ability to lift up to 25 pounds.
