WHAT YOU'LL DO

Under the general supervision of an assigned supervisor, develop employment opportunities for students and provide career and professional development services to students.

 

There are currently two vacancies:

 

One full-time position (12 months/year, 40 hours/week) at Ventura College, pending Board approval

One part-time position (12 months/year, 24 hours/week) at Oxnard College, pending Board approval

 

WHERE YOU'LL WORK

Established in 1925, Ventura College was one of the first community colleges in California and currently has an enrollment of 14,500 students. Located approximately 60 miles north of Los Angeles and 30 miles south of Santa Barbara, the 112-acre campus is set in the rolling hills of Ventura - so close to the ocean that there is a clear view of the Channel Islands from several spots on campus.

SALARY PLACEMENTNew Employees: Generally, new employees are placed on the first step of the appropriate range of the salary schedule.

Current Employees: An employee who is promoted will be placed on the salary step of the new range of the appropriate salary schedule that provides a minimum increase comparable to a one-step increase in salary.

This recruitment is being conducted to establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill district-wide, current and upcoming, temporary and regular vacancies for the duration of the list, not to exceed one year

 

Representative Duties

Establish and maintain liaison with employers and community agencies to develop employment opportunities for students and promote career services offered by the college. E

 

Provide career and professional development services such as resume and cover letter review, mock interviews, and educating students on how to network and search for jobs; develop and conduct workshops and presentations pertaining to career and professional development. E

 

Provide technical and administrative support to the internship program, including reviewing applications and determining eligibility based upon specified eligibility requirements, organizing and conducting orientations, processing internship course enrollment, tracking and monitoring student intern time sheets, reviewing internship evaluations, liaising with student interns, faculty advisors, and employers; and developing, disseminating, collecting, and maintaining program documents. E

 

Administer the online career management system (CMS), including reviewing and approving job postings and creating, updating, and disseminating announcements. E

 

Provide information and respond to inquiries from students, employees, employers, and the public regarding career services and activities provided by the college. E

 

Collect, compile, organize, and maintain data pertaining to career services and prepare reports. E

 

Assist in the planning, coordination, and implementation of career services-related events and outreach activities. E

 

Develop, prepare, and disseminate promotional materials regarding the college's career services, events, and programs; monitor and update information pertaining to career services on the college website. E

 

Perform a variety of clerical duties including answering telephones, composing correspondence, forms, and memos , and establishing and maintaining records and files. E

 

Attend and participate in job fairs, workshops, conferences, meetings, and committees as assigned. E

 

Provide work direction and guidance to student workers as assigned.

 

Perform other duties as assigned.

 

E = Essential Duties

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

A master's degree in psychology, counseling, education, social work, social services, career counseling or related field

 

OR

 

A bachelor's degree from a recognized college or university AND one year of experience performing career and professional development services

 

OR

 

An associate degree from a recognized college or university AND two years of experience performing career and professional development services

 

Supplemental Information

EXAMINATION AND SELECTION PROCESS

 

This is an examination open to the public and current district employees seeking a promotional opportunity. To ensure consideration, please submit your application materials by Friday, November 4, 2022.

 

The examination process may consist of any of the following components:

 

A) Training and Experience Evaluation = Qualifying (pass/fail)

B) Technical Interview = 100% weighting on final score

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE (T&E) EVALUATION:

 

A T&E is an assessment of training and experience, beyond the minimum requirements, that has prepared the candidate for the position as evidenced in the application materials. Please be sure to answer every component of each supplemental question as your responses will be scored and serve as your score on the training and experience (T&E) evaluation.

 

The candidates with the highest passing scores on the T&E will be invited to the technical interview.

Date Range: Monday, November 14, 2022 - Friday, November 18, 2022

ELIGIBILITY LIST

Upon completion of the examination, the eligibility list will be compiled by combining the final examination score with applicable seniority and veteran's credits, if any. The candidates will be ranked according to their total score on the eligibility list. Certification will be made from the highest three ranks of the eligibility list. This eligibility list will be used to fill current vacancies for up to one year from the date of the technical interview.

 

PROBATIONARY PERIOD

All appointments made from eligibility lists for initial appointment or for promotion, with certain exceptions, shall be probationary for a period of six (6) months or one hundred thirty (130) days of paid service, whichever is longer. Classified management, police, and designated executive classifications shall be probationary for a period of one (1) year of paid service from initial appointment or promotion.
