GEAR UP 4 LA is a dynamic federally funded program tasked with providing college access services to students beginning in sixth and seventh grades and following them through their first year of college. We are hiring one counselor for Barack Obama Global Preparation Academy and Dr. Maya Angelou Community High School located in Local District Central. The program’s core focus is to increase the number of low-income, first-generation students who are prepared to enter and succeed in postsecondary education, to build persistence in college, and to prepare them for life-long learning. Components of the program include a strong college academic and financial counseling program for students and parents, intensive extended learning programs, professional development for teachers, early college readiness tests, concurrent enrollment opportunities, college visits, and college and peer mentoring activities for students and parents. Minimum Requirements: All minimum requirements must be met on or before the filing deadline. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that appropriate documentation is on file with Human Resources. For additional information, please email HRSupportServices@lausd.net. - Probationary certificated employee of the Los Angeles Unified School District - A California General Pupil Personnel Services Credential or a pupil personnel services credential authorizing service in school counseling must be in force and on file in the Office of the Los Angeles County Superintendent of Schools - Meet standard performance ratings on Educator Development and Support: Teachers (EDST) Evaluation and in the preceding four years, have no Notice of Unsatisfactory Service - Completion of Multicultural Coursework (Applicants have one year to meet this requirement) Note: Applicants are advised that meeting the minimum stated requirements does not ensure an invitation to an interview. Selected individual may be subject to displacement due to budget limitations. District Information All candidates and employees must be fully COVID-19 vaccinated and must be able to provide verification of their vaccination status as part of the hiring and onboarding process prior to an official offer of employment to any District site.
