The Office of Correctional Education (OCE) is working to recruit vocational and academic instructors to support education programs through on-going professional development opportunities. The Office of Correctional Education will steadfastly continue to improve access to resources, professional development, and support as we strive to become the best correctional education system in the world! Job Description The Teacher, CF will prepare courses of study and daily lesson plans; plan, assign, and monitor student work; and work with students, helping them to set and meet educational needs and goals. In addition, Teachers in a juvenile facility may serve on treatment teams which combine the services of personnel in the custody, academic, vocational, psychiatric, and casework areas. The Teacher has an important role providing information of an educational nature, which can help other members of the team better determine each student’s treatment needs.

CDCR’s Office of Correctional Education is seeking credentialed teachers to prepare adult inmates for high school equivalency or diploma. Come be part of CDCR’s effort to improve public safety by preparing inmates for successful community reentry.

Academic Programs

Adult Basic Education (ABE) I, II and III provides incarcerated inmates/students opportunities for acquiring academic skills through an emphasis in English. Language Arts and Mathematics. General Education Development (GED) provides instruction in English/Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science and Social Studies to prepare offenders to take a high school equivalency exam. The High School Diploma (HD) Program is designed to provide offenders with an opportunity to fulfill current graduation requirements for the State of California, Department of Education, and secure a High School Diploma. The Voluntary Education Program includes literacy, adult secondary education, library literacy, television (eLearning) programs, and/or college (via face-to-face classes or correspondence)

Accepted Credentials: Single Subject, Multiple Subject, Standard Secondary with a major or minor in an academic subject area, Standard Elementary, General Elementary, or General Secondary. (Applicants who do not possess the required Credential or one of equivalent authorization may take the examination(s), but must have on file with the CTC an application for an appropriate credential. At the time of application for the examination, applicants must present written verification from CTC that the appropriate listed credential or its equivalent is being processed or will be authorized. CLAD certificate required at Juvenile facilities. No appointments will be made to permanent positions with an Emergency Credential.)
