About the Employer

The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) serves some of Orange County’s most vulnerable student populations and provides support and mandated fiscal oversight to 28 school districts serving more than 600 schools and approximately 475,000 students. In addition to providing direct instruction to students through its own alternative and special education programs, OCDE administers an array of programs and services that are critical to the operations of local school districts and community colleges, facilitating professional development, legal guidance, payroll, career and technical education support, high-speed internet access, Local Control and Accountability Plan assistance and approval, resources for families, and student enrichment. The Alternative Education Division's Special Education Department is committed to promoting a safe and healthy environment. Students can access a successful academic experience fostering self-motivation, accountability, competence, applicable work skills, and positive relationships, all of which will enhance their self-esteem and be reflected, as they become contributing members of society. OCDE is currently looking for a caring health care professional to serve as a School Nurse. This professional will support OCDE's values and mission by providing health services for students battling mental health (depression, anxiety, ADHD). This includes students with social/emotional issues, teen pregnancy, drug addiction, behavioral issues, lack of motivation, as well as other health impairments (diabetes, seizures, asthma, allergies, etc.). The selected candidate will complete health assessments including vision/hearing exams. On the job training available. 

Requirements / Qualifications

Education and Experience: Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: • Bachelor's Degree or higher from a regionally-accredited college. Licenses, Certificates, and Special Requirements: • Must possess or be eligible for a valid California Public School Nursing Credential issued by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing.  • Must possess a valid Registered Nurse License issued by the state of California.  • Valid CPR Provider and Instructor Card, preferred. • Bilingual Spanish or Vietnamese desirable.
