DESCRIPTION:
Utilize specialized training and diagnostic skills to provide psycho educational evaluations, consultation to staff and parents, and counseling support. This position reports to the Director, Special Services/Fontana SELPA.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS):
•Plan and conduct psycho educational evaluations initially and triennially as referred by parents, staff, or outside agencies.
•Provide Case management services including scheduling and chairing meetings, coordinating assessment and services among service providers,. completing required forms and assuring timelines.
•Interpret psychological assessment data and compile a comprehensive written report from multi-disciplinary assessments.
•Review placement for and needs of transfer students with IEP’s and assist in the placement of students with
•IEP’s in programs outside the SELPA.
•Conduct student observations and intervention or assessment and interpret relevant data.
•Participate in the creation of individual behavior management programs including specific interventions and strategies.
•Provide parent, teacher, and administrative support and education through conferencing and in servicing.
•Advocate and liaison for students involved in meetings conducted by Child Welfare and Attendance such as expulsions, SARB, and behavior intervention meetings.
•Collaborate with colleagues on an intra-district level including coordinating and communication with outside agencies.
•Supervise and coordinate field work experience for psychology and counseling interns.
•Evaluate mental and emotional status of students.
•Conduct individual and group counseling including brief, short term, and long term.
•Counsel with victims in crisis and develop immediate intervention plans with community agencies.
•Participate in district wide disaster plan by providing psychological support.
•Provide staff with psychological support and consultation as requested.
•Collect data for state and federal reporting.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Credentials and Experience:
•Pupil Services Credential authorizing School Psychology
•Masters Degree
Knowledge of:
•Psychological foundations including biological bases of behavior, cultural diversity, child and adolescent development, human exceptionalities, human learning, and social bases of behavior.
•Education foundations including education of exceptional learners, instruction and remedial techniques, and organization and operation of schools.
•Assessment interventions including consultation, counseling, and behavior management.
•Statistics and research design including history and foundations of school psychology, legal and ethical issues, professional issues and standards, and roles and functions of the school psychologist.
Ability to:
•Demonstrate professional ethics and maintain a professional image.
•Adapt to a variety of situations, cooperating with a variety of professionals.
•Work independently and jointly with other professionals and parents.
•Collaborate effectively with colleagues and professionals within the district and with outside agencies.
•Complete and maintain appropriate records in a timely fashion.
•Demonstrate personal stability to make professional decisions.
Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned performance responsibilities, which are essential functions of this job description, are the following essential physical requirements:
•Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
•Ability to circulate for extended periods of time.
•Ability to see for purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed matter and observing students.
•Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
•Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
