CLASS TITLE:
COORDINATOR, INTERVENTION AND PREVENTION

BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Services, coordinates the development, implementation, and evaluation of the Intervention and Prevention programs of the District, assuring equal participation and access for all students.

REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
• In conjunction with administrative directors, plan, organize, and coordinate district-wide academic and social intervention and prevention programs.
• Coordinate the summer school program for the district.
• Participate in the supervision and coordination of all matters relating to accessing and implementing services to students to increase student health, improve student readiness, and assist students and families in need.
• Assist in the recruitment of staff.
• Assume the responsibility for seeking and increasing intervention and prevention services to students and families.
• Assist in facilitating referrals of families to community agencies.
• Serve as the district liaison between Hayward Unified School District and community agencies such as: Our Kids, CommPre, and Hayward Coalition.
• Supervise and evaluate all personnel and programs related to student intervention and prevention.
• Coordinate and oversee all the compliance requirements relating to the Tobacco Use Prevention and the Safe and Drug Free School programs.
• Prepare program reports to evaluate effectiveness of program and to improve program implementation.
• Seek and write grants to seek funding to increase services for students and families.
• Oversee the community volunteer program.
• Oversee promotion and retention processes and provide feedback and support to site administrators.
• Serve as support to site administrators in area of responsibility.
• Expand and develop services addressing areas of health, mental health, and social services.
• Expand and develop services to address student safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Curriculum and evaluation processes related to program implementation knowledge of key components to implementing prevention and intervention programs.

ABILITY TO:
• Provide leadership and oversee the coordination and implementation of all prevention and intervention programs.

• Work directly with Principals and assigned district staff to provide assistance in monitoring curriculum and program evaluation related to all prevention and intervention programs.

• Facilitate district sponsored required community meetings related to prevention and intervention programs.

• Implement the use of computer software programs, hardware and other technology pertinent to the area of specialization.

• Demonstrate appropriate interpersonal relations skills using tact, patience and courtesy.

• Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with diverse audiences.

• Must be able to travel from site to site in the performance of duties.


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Graduation from an accredited college or university and a teaching credential. Beyond minimum requirements candidates may have any combination of a California credential for administrative services/supervisory degrees in education and/or related fields, experience implementing mental health/health services programs and other formal training and appropriate experience.
