BASIC FUNCTION:
Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, assist in providing instruction to an individual or groups of students assigned to a designated career technical courses related to the music, arts, media and entertainment industry; perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities.

- Discuss classroom learning activities with teacher/specialist to assist in coordinating instructional efforts; assists with the implementation of the instructional programs.
- Assist with instruction by tutoring or drilling students, individually or in groups, following lesson plans developed by the teacher to reinforce learning concepts; administer various tests as directed.
- Assist students in completing classroom assignments, homework and projects; assure student understanding of classroom rules and procedures; assist students by answering questions, providing proper examples, emotional support, friendly attitude and general guidance.
- Assist with classroom management by operating a variety of office machines and/or instructional equipment such as a personal computer, computer terminal, copiers, laminator, and telephone.
- Assist with a variety of classroom associated clerical work, such as typing, sorting, receiving and filing forms and documents, keeping accurate records, setting up and maintaining file folders, recording attendance, completing forms and applications, collecting monies, measuring, cutting, duplicating; replenishing supplies and materials from the stock room for classroom use.
- Assists with preparing various teaching aids by such methods as duplicating, collating, stapling, and laminating to produce such materials as charts, graphs and other related materials.
- Assists in classroom organizing activities such as displaying educational materials, preparing bulletin boards, arranging furniture to facilitate instructional needs.
- Observe and control behavior of students in the classroom according to approved procedures; report progress regarding student performance and behavior, assist in maintaining student control.
- Assist with conduct sectional rehearsals, chart field formations for half-time show, issuing uniforms, equipment and instruments, sorting, filing and issuing sheet music.
- Assure the health and safety of students by following established practices and procedures; maintain learning environment in a safe, orderly and clean manner.
- Attend meetings and in-services as assigned.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
INITIAL/MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- Graduation from high school OR General Education Development (GED) equivalent.
- Two years of study (48 units) from a recognized college or university, OR possession of an Associate's degree OR meet a rigorous standard of quality and be able to demonstrate, through a formal academic assessment, knowledge of and ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics.
- Two (2) years of experience working in the field of music, filming, photography, media and/or performing arts.
- Coursework related to music, filming, photography, media and/or performing arts is preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Marching patterns and maneuvers.
Basic creative aspects of filming, photography, media, and musical performance design including equipment and formations.
Basic filming, photography, media, and music education. Instruments used in a band or string ensemble.
Child guidance principles and practices. Safe practices in classroom activities.
Core subjects taught in District schools, including arithmetic, grammar, spelling, language and reading.
Basic instructional methods and techniques.
Correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary.
Classroom procedures and appropriate student conduct. Operation of standard office and classroom equipment.
Oral and written communication skills.
Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
Basic record-keeping techniques.
Knowledge of computer system principles, familiarity with computers, and exposure to common multi-media software and video editing software, and web design applications.
ABILITY TO:
Assist in instructing students on how to play musical instruments.
Arrange music.
Conduct sectional rehearsals.
Drill students in marching formation.
Assist in the instruction and reinforcement of filming, photography, media, and musical concepts and instrumentation to individuals and groups of students. Read, understand and explain musical scores and sheet music.
Assist with instruction and related activities in a classroom or assigned learning environment.
Reinforce instruction to individual or small groups of students as directed by the teacher.
Perform a variety of clerical duties in support of classroom activities.
Assist with reading and writing activities as assigned.
Understand and follow oral and written directions.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
Monitor, observe and report student behavior and progress according to approved policies and procedures.
Operate standard office and classroom equipment.

Addressing a variety of student needs in different disciplines (radio/film/TV).
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Music classroom, standard office, outdoor music related environments, and outdoor stadium. May be exposed to various types of inclement weather conditions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate standard office and classroom equipment.
Sitting or standing for extended periods of time.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching to assist students.
Seeing to read a variety of materials and monitor student activities.
