BASIC FUNCTION
Under general supervision, to act as a lead worker on the night shift over custodians performing assigned cleaning and maintenance work; to perform the varied duties of a custodian on a regular basis; and to do related work as required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
Guides, checks, corrects, and reports on the work of custodians including substitutes performing work in the care and cleaning program of the school, and sees that the work is done in a safe manner and in accordance with instructions;
Provides assistance and guidance to custodians on how to perform custodial work;
Prepares work schedules;
While working with custodians, insures that the varied duties of cleaning, dusting, polishing, waxing, setting up of furniture and equipment, and performing minor maintenance is accomplished through efficient use of personnel;
Checks work in progress and upon completion and refers problems to the supervisor;
Assists in training employees;
Insures that needs of crew, faculty, public and others are met to prevent interruption of normal authorized work and activity;
In case of vandalism, insures that affected areas are secured until repairs can be made;
Keeps records of such matters as the inventory of custodial supplies as well as preparing written inspection reports as required.
JOB COMPETENCIES: Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of:
Industrial engineering principles applicable to custodial work, including methods and use of cleaning materials and equipment;
Requirements for the safe maintenance of school facilities;
Basic techniques of training.
Ability to:
Lead custodians in all phases of custodial assignments;
Use cleaning materials, equipment and methods according to pre-determined standards;
Make minor non-technical repairs;
Instruct and train custodians in the proper performance of their duties;
Establish and maintain effective relationships;
Follow written and oral directions;
Keep simple written records;
Test and evaluate the effectiveness of new products;
Use basic arithmetic.
MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
Persons with the experience, knowledge and abilities as stated are considered to have the necessary education.
Experience:
Two years of experience in school custodial work, or one year of experience as a custodian with Conejo Valley
Unified School District.
WORK CONDITIONS:
Physical Requirements:
The ability to pass a physical examination deemed appropriate by the District and perform the physical requirements of the position.
