CLASS TITLE: NUTRITION SERVICES WAREHOUSE ASSISTANT
BASIC FUNCTION: Under direction of an assigned supervisor, operate a light-duty or medium-duty District vehicle to assist with a variety of duties including loading and unloading, receipt, distribution, delivery, storage, inventory and issuance of heated or refrigerated food products, food service supplies, food, hot food carts, equipment and miscellaneous items.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: Incumbents in the classification may not perform all of these tasks or may perform similar related tasks not listed here. (E1- frequent duties, E2- moderate duties, E3- occasional duties)
- Inspect, record, store, wrap and issue supplies, check temperatures of food items, equipment and food; note discrepancies in deliveries. (E1)
- Load, unload and distribute food, equipment and other supplies utilizing a forklift, pallet jack or hand truck or other equipment. (E1)
- Operate and drive a light or medium-duty truck or District vehicle on a regular route to various sites. (E1)
- Prepare and process order forms, records and documentation on deliveries. (E1)
- Preserve food supplies under controlled temperatures following federal and state guidelines. (E1)
- Maintain work and material inventory records. (E2)
- Assist in packaging and distribution of non-food items including but not limited to laundry, mail, correspondence; to schools and District sites as needed. (E2)
- Maintain cleanliness and order of the food service warehouse, food pantry and food service vehicles. (E2)
- Operate a variety of modern office equipment (E2)
- Maintain an organized and safe working environment. (E1)
- Operate and drive a District vehicle in support of essential duties; observe legal and defensive driving practices. (E31)
- Package and prepare unwanted, spoiled or defective products or items to be returned to vendors as needed. (E3)
- Familiarize and orient substitute employees (E3)
- Perform related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The requirements listed below are representative of knowledge, skills and abilities required to satisfactorily perform the essential duties and responsibilities.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A.High School Diploma or equivalent.
B.One (1) year of responsible warehouse and delivery experience with six (6) months of cold storage or perishable/food handling experience preferred. Or Any combination of education, training, and/or experience which demonstrates ability to perform the essential duties may be substituted for the required experience and/or education.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
- A certificate stating freedom from Tuberculosis.
- A valid California Driver’s License.
- Current DMV printout.
- Forklift Operators Certificate within forty-five (45) days of employment.
- Valid First Aid Certification.
- Valid CPR Certification preferred.
- Current state and county required food handling certificate
KNOWLEDGE OF:
- Basic math concepts.
- Operation, Cleaning and light maintenance of delivery trucks or vehicles.
- Interpersonal skills including tact, patience and courtesy.
- Defensive driving techniques.
- Health, safety and sanitation regulations.
- Methods and practices of general warehouse and food storage work
- Operation, use and care of forklifts, pallet jacks and hand trucks.
- Record-keeping and inventory methods.

- Telephone etiquette.
ABILITY TO:
- Prepare and maintain accurate records, logs and files.
- Operate a forklift, pallet jack and hand truck to perform assigned duties.
- Operate computerized warehouse systems.
- Order food items and supplies in large quantities.
- Properly handle and store hazardous materials.
- Store food properly and take inventory.
- Establish and maintain professional working relationships with students, staff, and community members
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
- Adhere to schedules and timelines
- Understand, apply and explain the District’s organizational structure, operations, policies and procedures.
