OUTREACH WORKER
DEFINITION
Under the general direction of the administration, this position is responsible for identifying resources and building community partnerships and then connecting Jurupa families and students to those resources. Perform other related duties as assigned. Individuals in this classification must have the ability and knowledge to speak and write fluently in English and in another language determined by needs of the families and students. Generally this second language will be Spanish.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
· Provide case management, post data and information to forms and files, and maintain updated records on each student and family receiving services.
· Attend community fairs and activities.
· Attend collaborative meetings.
· Attend case meetings.
· Perform case assessments to determine the needs of bilingual students and families; refer and assist in connecting to resources.
· Provide resource and health care information to the community and assist families.
· Drive between the Education Center, schools, student’s homes and community agencies as needed.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge of:
· Family systems and socialization of children.
· Effective written and oral bilingual communication skills.
· School and community relationships and community problems, interests and concerns.
Ability to:
· Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships.
· Understand the economic and social needs of low-income families.
· Understand and communicate effectively with bilingual children and adults of diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds.
· Work independently and as a team player.
· Maintain flexibility and utilize sound judgment.
· Maintain strict confidentiality.
· Concentrate on current task in spite of distractions in an active, busy environment.
· Deal with hostile, emotional, angry or ill persons in an effective manner.
· Effectively perform intervention procedures to prevent altercations and maintain order.
· Work on more than one task at a time.
· Demonstrate manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer and other office/classroom equipment in a safe and efficient manner;
· Lift, move, or push or pull cart with light to medium-weight objects such as office/classroom materials and equipment.
· Maintain regular, steady attendance.
Education and Experiences
High School Diploma or Equivalent
Possession of a valid, appropriate, California Driver’s License.
Personal Qualities
Integrity, confidentiality, adaptability, flexibility, good judgment, dependability, ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure, and ability to work independently.
