THE POSITION: Under the direction of the Director III, Community Schools Initiative, the School Social Worker provides crisis intervention, mental health counseling and social services to students and their families with the aim of promoting resiliency, emotional wellness, and positive school adjustment. Evidence-based and promising practice strategies are followed to identify, assess, and address social- emotional-environmental issues. Through these strategies, the School Social Worker supportsthe educational process and works directly with students and families to reduce and overcome barriers to educational success. In addition, a key role of the School Social worker is to collaborate with school staff in multi-disciplinary school teams and community partners to improve coordination of services and increase resources.
Requirements / Qualifications
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: • A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology or related field is required. • One year of experience in the field of social work, school counseling or psychology working with school-age children, preferably in a school setting • Previous experience working with at-promise youth (e.g. gang, truancy, foster youth). • Knowledge of current prevention and intervention programs/strategies. • Experience facilitating groups, presentations, monitoring programs, and report writing. • Experience collaborating with community-based organizations, law enforcement, and other government agencies. • Experience working with school multidisciplinary teams. LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE • Must possess and maintain a valid Pupil Personnel Services (PPS) Credential in School Social Work, School Counseling or School Psychology. • A valid license as a clinical social worker issued by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences OR immediate registration as an Associate Clinical Social Worker upon date of hire. Must remain in good standing with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences for the duration of the waivers by law, not to exceed six years.

Under Superintendent Policy 4060, COVID-19 Vaccination, the Los Angeles County Office of Education (LACOE) requires that all LACOE employees, including substitute employees, temporary office workers, hourly/part-time employees, contractors, interns, and volunteers are fully vaccinated against COVID-19. An individual is considered “fully vaccinated” when at least two weeks have passed since that individual’s receipt of the second dose in a two-dose series, such as the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines, or two weeks after a single-dose vaccine, such as Johnson and Johnson’s Janssen vaccine.
