Teacher
Primary Function: To manage the learning environment of students enrolled in a secondary school educational program in accordance with the philosophy, goals, and objectives of the Board of Trustees and in compliance with the laws of California, to maintain standards of expected student progress, to maintain a learning environment which permits discourse, study, and reflection designed to produce expected student outcomes, and to perform assigned duties related to the general welfare of the total program of the school and students.
Supervision: Reports to the school principal.
Requirements Necessary to Perform Typical Duties: Valid California Teaching Credential in subjects taught.
Typical Duties Performed:
1. Manages the learning of assigned students, using the course of study adopted by the Board of Trustees and other appropriate learning activities.
2. Diagnoses the level of development of each student within the first month of the school year or within two weeks of transfer into the class, and shall prescribe a plan of study for each class within the framework of the district course of study.
3. Prepares written lesson plans for each class which reflects the diagnostic, prescriptive, and performance characteristics of the learning environment.
4. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students with varying skills, abilities, attitudes, and cultural backgrounds.
5. Creates, with the assistance of pupils and using instructional materials, interest centers and displays to enhance learning.
6. Evaluates each student’s progress regularly and systematically, and shall prepare student progress charts.
7. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment.
8. Communicates with parents regarding the progress of individual students.
9. Communicates with counselors regarding the progress of individual students.
10. Performs attendance recording and business transactions as directed by the principal.
11. Participates in the selection of textbooks, instructional aids, and supplies, and shall maintain such inventory as directed by the principal.
12. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities as directed by the principal.
13. Maintains professional competence through participation in in-service training activities provided by the district and in self-directed professional growth activities.
14. Participates in the development and revision of courses of study and other learning materials during the contract year as directed by the superintendent.
15. Assist in interpreting the school program to parents and other members of the community in order to promote greater understanding among community groups of school objectives, accomplishments, and problems.
16. Abides by all policies set forth by the Board of trustees.
17. Maintains suitable personal attributes, a high level of positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the community, adaptability, resourcefulness, and growth in instructional skills, and professional attributes which positively reinforce the welfare of the school and students.
