CAFETERIA WORKER

DEFINITION
Under direction, to assist in preparing and serving food; to assist in maintaining food service facilities in a clean and sanitary condition; to assist in the operation of a cafeteria snack bar or satellite cafeteria; to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Assists in the preparation and serving of food; assists in setting up steam table for food service; sells food to students; sets up utensils and other condiments and supplies; supervises student help; operates various kitchen equipment; cleans food service facilities, equipment and utensils; transfers food to and from various serving, preparation and selling areas; assists in taking inventories; responsible for the operation and cleaning of various kitchen equipment.
EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Education and Experience: Typically requires completion of a high school curriculum and less than one year experience in quantity food preparation. Additional experience may substitute for education.
Licenses and Certificates: Food Handlers Permit.
Knowledge and/or Skills: Basic knowledge of institutional quantity food preparation, methods, procedures and service; weights and measures; and kitchen safety and sanitation.
Abilities: Must be able to perform the routine duties of the position under direct supervision. Must be able to follow oral and written instructions.
Physical Abilities: Requires the ability to stand for extended periods of time, bend, kneel and stoop. Lifts up to 25 pounds on a continuous basis; may lift medium to heavy objects up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis. Requires the ability to handle hot materials and working an environment dominated by wide temperature extremes. Requires sufficient hand coordination to use kitchen utensils and equipment and move and position hot materials.
