HIGH SCHOOL DRIVER EDUCATION/TRAINING TEACHER
THE POSITION
Under general supervision, teaches one or more classes in driver education to students in grade 9 through 12, assists in other school programs as assigned, and creates a flexible program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student’s ability.
RESPONSIBLE TO: Principal
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
The duties listed are typical, but not exclusive:
- Teaches students the manipulative and perceptive skills required for the safe and proper operation of a motor vehicle.
- Attempts to instill attitudes and behavior in students, which are conductive to the safe and proper operation of a motor vehicle.
- Conducts laboratory instruction in motor vehicle operation using behind-the-wheel instruction and observation techniques.
- Instructs students in how to cope with typical emergencies that are associated with operation of motor vehicles.
- Reinforces subject matter and skills taught in Driver Education courses.
- Assists students in preparing applications for obtaining student driver licenses. Issues certificates of completion to students who complete the course.
- Confers with counselors and teachers on the scheduling of students for driver training instruction.
- Services driver training car (gasoline, oil, washing) and arranges for other maintenance services as requested.
- Keeps necessary records and prepares reports as required.
- Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment.
- Evaluates each student’s performance and growth in knowledge and understanding, and prepares progress reports.
- Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the District and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
- Cooperates in school-wide supervision of students during out-of-classroom activities.
QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE
- Valid California Credential or license authorizing service in grade levels and areas assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree, including all courses to meet credential requirements.
Training and Experience:
- Student teaching, internship, or full time teaching experience.
Personal Qualities:
- Appearance, grooming and personality, which establish a desirable example for students.
- Ability to meet District standards for physical and mental health.
- Above average recommendations from student teaching supervisors and other professionals who have observed the characteristics, scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher.
WORK YEAR: 184 Day Work Year
SALARY: Certificated Salary Schedule
