ELECTRONICS TECHNICIAN

 
DEFINITION
Performs skilled electronics work in the repair, installation, and alteration of electronic equipment and control systems.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General supervision is provided by the assigned Regional Maintenance Supervisor or a high level maintenance management position.
Assignments may require the indirect supervision of other maintenance and repair personnel.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Determines, by periodic or special inspection, the repair and maintenance work necessary to maintain operation of electronic equipment, and alarm devices within established standards of performance.
Repairs and maintains public address systems, security alarm devices, fire alarm systems, audiovisual equipment, master clocks, phone systems, electronic test equipment, and related electronic equipment.
Tests equipment found to be operating at substandard level with electronic and electrical measuring devices.
Makes necessary service adjustments or replacements with new or repaired parts.
Recommends repair, by subcontractor, or replacement of all defective complex equipment.
Checks and adjusts electronic controls for timing, force of amplitude, and similar operational requirements.
Makes various mechanical adjustments relating to electrical systems and electronic devices.
Performs related work as required.

CLASS QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge of:
Materials, tools, equipment, and methods of electronics repair and systems maintenance and installation.
Public address and fire alarm systems, CCTV cameras, and computer interface programs related to these systems. These systems will include, but limited to Dukane, Bogen, Notifier, Bosch, Di Bos, NEC and Panasonic.
Codes, ordinances, and regulations pertinent to specific electronic systems repair and maintenance activities.
Safe work practices.


Ability to:
Install, repair, and maintain electronics equipment and wiring systems, of master clocks, security alarms, fire alarms, and electronic key telephones and systems.
Use and care for electronic systems maintenance and repair tools and diagnostic equipment.
Read, interpret, and work from plans, wiring diagrams, and schematics.
Understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
Be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability.


EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS
Five years of experience in electronic systems repair and maintenance work with at least one year at the journey level.  Emphasis in a specific electronics area may be required based upon existing requirements.


LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE
Required:Possession of a valid State of California Class C driver's license. Ability to be insured at standard vehicle liability and property damage insurance rates and maintain insurability. 
Desirable:NICET Certification (or equivalent) for fire alarm systems – Level II or higher. Written and oral proficiency in a second language.
