Job Summary
Nipaquay Elementary, San Diego Unified’s newest elementary school, will utilize an integrated, project based approach to learning with a focus on STEAM (Science Technology Engineering, Arts, Mathematics), Environmental Literacy/Sustainability, and Social Justice. Nipaquay will be a site devoted to continuous learning for all (students and staff alike) and focus on cultivating the unique genius of every member of our community. Nipaquay is designed as a proof of concept school. We hope to develop, pilot, and share integrated STEAM learning experiences that will benefit all of San Diego Unified and beyond. Applicants should have a desire to innovate in service of redefining students' elementary education experience while developing essential foundational skills in literacy and problem solving. A collaborative spirit will be essential for success at this site and teachers should be open to working closely with colleagues in service of continuous growth and development, to include but not limited to lesson study, action research, classroom observations, etc. Above all candidates should have a firmly developed growth mindset and strong belief that every student possesses unique strengths/genius and that all are capable of accomplishing and exceeding grade level competencies. We are hiring 3 full-time positions in grades UTK through 2nd.
Requirements / Qualifications
Qualified candidates must be have a Multiple Subject Credential issued in California or an equivalent out-of-state teaching credential. Candidates eligible for a multiple subjects credential within the next three months must provide evidence from their credentialing program that they will graduate and will be recommended for a credential. A valid English Language Learner Authorization or willingness to obtain one is also required. Demonstration Lesson Requirement: Applicants must submit a 10 to 15 minute demonstration lesson video. Videos can be of in-person instruction or online instruction, and they must show the candidate providing academic instruction. Videos can be uploaded here. Applicants who do not upload a video will not move forward in the screening process. The title of the video should be your last name, first initial, and the last four digits of your social security number (ex: Williams, A 1234). Desired candidates should have a proven track record of developing foundational literacy skills across diverse student groups through a balanced literacy approach. Recommended experience in Project/Curriculum development, Project Based Learning, Integrated STEAM teaching, Design Thinking, or willingness to participate in ongoing training with San Diego Enhanced Math - Illustrative Mathematics. Desired candidates should also be willing to participate in ongoing training in foundational and ongoing professional learning and action research. Demonstrated ability to collaborative with grade level, site, and district staff in service of site and district goals and an understanding of high functioning Professional Learning Communities with an emphasis on analyzing student work is highly desired.
