CARPENTER
DEFINITION:
Under general supervision, to do skilled journeyman-level carpentry work in the construction and maintenance of building and equipment; and to do related work as required.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Working from plans, verbal instructions, sketches and blueprints, assembles and repairs doors, windows, floors, roofs and other wooden structures; hangs doors and windows; makes and repairs wooden fixtures and office furniture; maintains tools in proper working conditions; operates power woodworking machinery such as saws, shapers, sanders and lathes; cuts, fits, glues and assembles new cabinets and other furniture; may supervise the work of helpers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
The tools, materials and standard practices of the woodworking trade;
The qualities of various woods and related materials and their adaptability and uses in specific situations;
State, County, and City building codes and ordinances.
Ability to:
Skillfully use woodworking tools and equipment;
Work from sketches, drawings and blueprints;
Follow verbal and written directions.
Experience:
Qualified journeyman in the building trades.
Education:
High school education or equivalent in training and experience or apprenticeship in program of building trades.
License:
Possession of a valid California License to operate a motor vehicle.
