CLASSROOM TEACHER (K-6) The Elementary classroom teacher provides an educational program for pupils in grades kindergarten through sixth, or a combination thereof, an assists other school programs as assigned. I. Major Duties & Responsibilities a. Performs duties in accordance with District and State school policies and\or laws. b. Teaches whole language, computer instruction or technology, social studies, mathematics, science, health, art, physical education and music to pupils utilizing courses of study adopted by the Board of the Education and other appropriate learning activities. May teach a foreign language to sixth-grade pupils. c. Instructs pupils in citizenship, basic communication skills, and other general elements of the courses of study specified in State law and administrative regulations and procedures of the School District. d. Provides planned learning experience in order to motivate pupils and best utilize the available times for instructions. e. Develops lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized, small group and whole group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil. f. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom. g. Identifies pupils’ needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude and learning problems. h. Creates, with assistance from pupils, a functional attractive environment for learning through displays, bulletin boards and in/or interest centers. i. Maintains professional competence through participation in inservice education activities provided by the District and\or self selected professional growth activities. j. Performs basic attendance accounting and other clerical duties associated with the job assignment as required. k. Participates with the principal and his\her Designee to mutually develop a system by which he\she will be evaluated in conformance with the district’s uniform guidelines for evaluation assessment.
