
Maintenance Specialist III - HVAC/R at Glendora Unified School District
Requirements / Qualifications
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Maintains air handlers. With guidance from a Maintenance Specialist IV or from standing manufacturers’ instructions, tightens, adjusts, repairs, replaces, and calibrates boilers, chillers, cooling towers, variable frequency drives, motor control contactors, pumps, etc. Performs preventive maintenance on high voltage switch gear, irrigation pumps, walk-in freezers, and cafeteria equipment, as they relate to HVAC or related equipment. Assists with and may fabricate and install duct work, airflow systems, condensers, refrigeration. Removes old equipment and refrigerants according to applicable laws and safety standards. Administers building energy management systems by assisting with installation of computer-aided controls, digital building HVAC equipment controllers, drives and volume boxes, data communications cabling, and other devices. Performs routine electrical repairs and maintenance duties. Adjusts, repairs or replaces, motors, heaters, switchgear and other electrical apparatus. Tests, adjusts and calibrates boiler and air conditioning machinery and mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic control instruments. Tests and, as required, chemically treats boiler, condenser and cooling tower water and water from other systems. Responds to reports of heating or cooling problems, suspicious odors, electrical problems, refrigeration problems, and other urgent situations. Receives information on problems and forwards to HVAC Specialists. Maintains up-to-date knowledge of indoor air quality standards and compliance requirements. Confers with others to recommend and evaluate heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and energy management infrastructure for new and remodeled facilities. Participates with the Maintenance Specialist – Electrician on assignments as needed. Performs generalist maintenance work. Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: The position typically requires an Associate’s Degree or equivalent vocational program in Energy Management, Industrial Technology, or related field and four years of progressive experience. Training in an industrial, commercial or military setting or experience in the electrical and mechanical maintenance fields may substitute for some higher education. LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES: Requires a valid Driver’s License. Requires appropriate certification in area of specialization for handling and recycling of refrigerants. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed indoors and outdoors where significant health and safety considerations exist from physical labor and handling of materials.
