Summary
Organizes and coordinates operations and professional and administrative support for the daily operations of the Training Center. Participates in planning for and provides logistics and training support to the development and implementation of special Criminal Justice Training Center (CJTC) projects and programs.
Distinguishing Career Features
The Criminal Justice Training Center Coordinator is a first-line working supervisory position responsible for project/program research, development and coordination of activities and logistics support for the daily operation and management of CJTC programs that include and are not limited to, the Associates Degree, Basic Police Academies, Advanced Officer and CPT training, and the Leadership and Ethics Institute. The Coordinator will handle the logistics of moving courses between classroom and field environments, blending conceptual, tactical, and physical instructional content. These courses are, and need to be continually reviewed, for acceptance and certification by the California Commission on Police Officer Standards and Training.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
• Specific duties may vary among departments, divisions and jobs. Incumbents typically perform a substantial portion or all of the following kinds of duties, as assigned:
• Organizes and supervises staff that is engaged in supporting the courses, programs, and logistics involved in police training including classrooms and field training simulations.
• Assists the Director in reviewing and ensuring all programs and courses are compliant with POST training mandates and contractual obligations. Analyzes and aligns laws and regulations to develop defensible course and training regiments.
• Works with criminal justice system agencies to advance the College’s position within the criminal justice community. Participates and may chair committees designed to identify and resolve challenging program and campus opportunities and issues.
• Oversees and facilitates the development of instructional schedules for faculty and presenters for all special courses, special advanced level programs, and regular semester and distance learning classes.
• Conducts advanced officer and continuing professional education training programs following approved texts, safety protocols, and manuals.
• Researches and surveys industry trends and legislation leading to recommending development of new programs and content that enhance the mission of the CJTC.
• Develops, oversees, and coordinates contractual agreements with various agencies in support of the CJTC.
• Oversees, develops, and schedules CJTC classrooms and off-site facilities for special instructional use for course presentations and classes.
• Oversees development and submittal of all course outlines and curriculum for certifications by P.O.S.T.
• Coordinates service delivery prior to, and concurrent with courses, such as the preparation of curriculum development outlines, agendas for Council for Curriculum and Instruction (CCI), class schedule development, classroom and facility coordination, and staff assignments.
• Communicates with Director and Department Chair on a regular basis regarding all matters concerning special projects. Collaborates with allied and constituent agencies.
• Coordinates related activities with participating agencies and individuals to ensure the integrity of established standards of all CJTC programs.
• Performs other related duties as assigned that support the objective of the position.
• Required to abide by all District policies and procedures including Board Policy 3050 – Code of Professional Ethics.

• The position requires specialized knowledge of police organizations, P.O.S.T., rank structure, and the law enforcement environment.
• Requires knowledge of the steps and processes used in connection with the curriculum development processes used for law enforcement education and training.
• Requires well-developed knowledge of report and proposal preparation.
• Requires knowledge of budgetary methods and procedures and techniques of cost analysis.
• Requires well-developed knowledge and skills with personal computer-based software programs that support this level of work, including but not limited to word processing, spreadsheet, presentation graphics, and data entry and retrieval to and from custom databases.
• Requires well-developed skill at facilitating small group decision-making processes.
• Requires sufficient math skill to interpret statistics and perform a full range of arithmetic calculations.
• Requires well-developed knowledge of proper English usage, grammar, spelling, and punctuation to prepare and edit written materials intended for public distribution.
• Requires well-developed human relation skills to inspire cooperation and collaboration, resolve conflicts, convey technical concepts to others, and conduct presentations to individuals and groups.

Physical Abilities
• The general physical demands, working conditions, and essential job functions associated with this classification will be kept on file with the Office of Human Resources.

Education and Experience
The position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in Criminal Justice, Public Safety or a related field and 2 years of experience providing training and program support services to a function where curriculum results in students receiving peace officer and related law enforcement credentials. Or, any combination of education and experience which would provide the required equivalent qualifications for this position.
Any academy coordinator appointed on or after April 1, 2020, shall have sworn, full-time, first-level supervisory experience.
Licenses and Certificates
• May require a valid driver license.
Conditions of Employment
Working Conditions
• This is a full-time, 12-month, educational administrator position. The normal hours of work will be 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 P.M., Monday through Friday. However, some flexibility such as evenings and week-ends will be required to meet the needs of the department. The effective date of employment will be arranged with the supervisor.
• Regular attendance is considered an essential job function; the inability to meet attendance requirements may preclude the employee from retaining employment.
• The person holding this position is considered a mandated reporter under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in Coast Community College District policies, procedures, and Title IX. (Reference: BP/AP 5910 )
