Requirements / Qualifications
If you do not hold a 30-Day Substitute Permit, we will help you apply for it if you meet the minimum qualifications for the permit. The fee is $102.50 which is paid electronically to the CTC once the 30-Day Substitute Permit recommendation has been made through CTC. Human Resources will make the recommendation after all required materials have been submitted. To apply for a 30-Day Substitute Permit, please submit the following: Unofficial or Official Transcripts of BA/BS degree with conferral date posted Meet a Basic Skills Requirement with one of the following: https://www.ctc.ca.gov/credentials/leaflets/basic-skills-requirement-(cl-667) (copy and paste to browser) • Pass CBEST • Pass Multiple Subject CSET Plus Writing Skills Exam • Pass Basic Skills Exam from another state • Qualifying Score on SAT (500 or higher Reading & 550 or higher Math) or ACT (22 English & 23 Math) • Qualifying Score on CSU Early Assessment Program • Qualifying scores of 3 or higher on AP English and AP Calculus College Board Exams. • Meet Basic Skills Requirement by college coursework (Reading, Writing and Math) with a B or better. Two (2) letters of recommendation. Signed (true signatures) and dated within the last year. NO ELECTRONIC SIGNATURES

Proof of a Basic Skills Requirement is not required IF you already hold a valid California Teaching Credential or a current 30-Day Substitute Permit.
