The Los Angeles County Office of Education is seeking detail-oriented and adaptable individuals to apply for Transportation Scheduler. Under general direction, monitors and coordinates the daily operations of the County-wide transportation system; responds to customer questions and complaints, and vendor requests; and initiates operational adjustments as needed.

DEFINITION

Under general direction, monitors and coordinates the daily operations of the County-wide transportation system; responds to customer questions and complaints, and vendor requests; and initiates operational adjustments as needed.

 

DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS

This class is distinguished from the Transportation Planner classification in its responsibility of performing daily activities related to coordinating and monitoring the transportation system. The higher level Transportation Planner is primarily responsible for the overall creation and maintenance of the master transportation schedule and supervises technical and clerical personnel.

 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED AND EXERCISED
General direction is provided by the Transportation Planner. Responsibilities do not include direct supervision, but serves in a lead capacity over clerical positions.

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Oversees the operation of the transportation system and communication interface
  • Monitors the daily activities of transportation network, which include Special Education and Los Angeles County High School of the Arts (LACHSA) bus routes
  • Initiates daily scheduling adjustments to respond to changing student load requirements
  • Updates the Special Education and LACHSA bus run and route consolidations
  • Assists in initiating and coordinating emergency actions in response to vehicle failure, natural disasters, etc.
  • Provides updated information to the Transportation Planner for the development and maintenance of transportation schedules and contractor assignments
  • Assists in the revision of the master route consolidation
  • May audit and analyze contractors' performance to determine penalty assessments
  • May assist in the compilation of statistical surveys, studies, and various reports related to billing accuracy, cost-effectiveness, and program utilization
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS

Knowledge:

  • Fundamentals of transportation timetabling and scheduling
  • Transportation routing and scheduling systems
  • Topography and road conditions in Los Angeles County
  • Emergency 900 MHz base stations
  • Motor Vehicle Code and other ordinances affecting pupil transportation

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Experience: Two years of experience in pupil or public transportation, scheduling, or dispatching.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.
 
Additional Requirements: A valid California Driver's License and use of a vehicle may be required for positions in this classification.
