
Groundskeeper - M & O at Brentwood Union School District (Northern California)

Primary Function: Under general supervision, perform gardening and varied grounds maintenance work at all district facilities.
Performance Responsibilities:
• Plan and develop new landscape areas and renovate existing areas
• Conduct routine safety inspections of grounds and plan required maintenance
• Install and repair sprinkler valves, pipes and heads
• Operate trucks, tractors, sprayers, edgers, lawn mowers, rototillers, and other grounds maintenance equipment
• Maintain site drainage systems and structures
• Assist maintenance personnel in routine maintenance tasks
• Cultivate, water and spray existing plants, shrubs, hedges, trees and flowers
• Fertilize, water mow and trim lawns trees, hedges and shrubs
• Prepare and treat soil for planting
• Spade and fertilize flower beds and set out plants
• Keep assigned areas free of weeds, pests, and plant diseases
• Rake leaves; sweep walks and parking areas; pick up papers
• Prepare athletic fields for district events; clean fields following district events
• Unload and store furniture and supplies and equipment
• Assist custodians when necessary
• Perform general laboring or custodial duties as needed
• All other duties as assigned
Desirable Qualifications
Knowledge of: Proper and safe use of manual and motorized tools and equipment used in grounds maintenance; methods, materials and equipment used in propagating, cultivating, pruning, trimming and caring for plants, flowers, shrubs, trees and lawns; proper and safe lawn cutting procedures; maintenance of routine records; operation of district equipment and vehicles safely at all times;
Abilities
Take projects from inception to completion with little or no assistance; understand and carry out oral and written directions; perform mathematical calculations related to measurement; establish and maintain a positive relationship with school district personnel.
ADA Requirements
Stand, bend, twist, reach, grasp, stretch, climb, balance, kneel, crouch or squat, push, pull or drag; occasionally lift and carry objects weighing approximately 30 lbs. (i.e., hand or power tools, etc.); rarely lift and carry objects weighing approximately 50 lbs. (i.e., bags of fertilizer, backpack hand sprayer, trash/clippings, etc.); tolerate exposure to weather. Possess sufficient vision to read printed material, see distant objects with clarity, judge distances and spatial relationships, and identify and distinguish objects. Possess sufficient hearing to hear conversations in person and on the telephone, and hear sounds clearly up to twenty feet. Ability to speak in an understandable voice with sufficient volume to be heard in normal conversation and on the telephone.
Experience
Previous groundskeeping experience preferred.
Education
Equivalent to completion of twelfth grade. Must be able to pass standard proficiency test of basic knowledge and skills related test.
Valid California drivers license.

MUST BRING/WEAR MASK for the proficiency test. Masks MUST be worn outside of our district office, in the lobby, hallways and restroom.

Proficiency testing will be held on Wednesday, 06/16/2021 at 2:00pm at the District Office at 255 Guthrie Lane, Brentwood. If you plan to take the Proficiency Testing, you MUST PRE-REGISTER by emailing Debbie Valladao at dvalladao@brentwood.k12.ca.us, no later than 12:00pm, Tuesday, 06/15/2021. On testing date, please bring a government issued photo ID to check in and allow 1 1/2 hours. NO LATE ENTRIES.
Due to the current COVID-19 situation and the need to ensure appropriate physical distancing of testing participants, if you do not pre-register for testing, you will NOT be allowed to take the proficiency test on Wednesday, 06/16/2021.
YOU DO NOT NEED TO TEST IF: you've already passed the district's proficiency test, or have a Bachelor's degree, or have passed the CBEST test exam. However, you MUST ATTACH PROOF of one of those to a completed application by the posting close date and time.
