Education and Experience
•Any combination of experience and education that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities. • Five years of experience in the design, development, programming, implementation, and maintenance of mid to large-scale business or educational system databases requiring SQL database administration and programming. • Microsoft Certified Solutions Certification (e.g. SQL Server, Data Platform, Business Intelligence) or current relevant database professional certification.
Education and Experience con't
•A bachelor’s degree with major coursework in computer science, computer information systems, business administration, or closely related field is highly desirable. • Working knowledge of database systems used in education (Student Information Systems, Human Resources, Fiscal, etc.) is highly desirable.

THE POSITION

Under general supervision, perform complex work in evaluating, maintaining, developing, implementing, and modifying databases used throughout the District, specifically current and future Student Information System; provide technical assistance to users and data processing staff; work with the various sites and departments in the District to design, integrate, control, secure, maintain, recover and document databases and projects; apply maintenance releases to database servers; establish technical standards for interface with database management system; perform related duties as assigned.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

The duties listed are typical, but not exclusive.

  • Installs and monitors the operation and performance of database hardware and software solutions, including Student Information Systems, to ensure that it operates in a manner consistent with the needs of the District.
  • Performs routine systems administration tasks such as installing new hardware and software, maintaining user accounts, database administration, and scheduling backups.
  • Performs systems level programming as necessary, including SQL programming, to ensure that Student Information Systems and servers operate in a manner consistent with the needs of the District.
  • Provides ongoing support to District and school personnel in the resolution of Student Information System issues.
  • Performs systems level programming as necessary to ensure that multi-user and Server systems operate in a manner consistent with the needs of the District.
  • Performs systems level programming as necessary to ensure that multi-user and Server systems operate in a manner consistent with the needs of the District.
  • Monitors and solves database performance issues.
  • Documents the District’s database environment.
  • Writes code for stored procedures and scripts to integrate data among the various systems used in the District.
  • Analyzes and evaluates database systems, and makes recommendations to ensure their integration with other systems used in the District.
  • Works cooperatively with District and school staff and third-party vendors to maximize the integration between various systems.
  • Designs, implements, and tests maintenance procedures, including backup and restore, for the various databases used in the District.
  • Responsible for the security and integrity of database systems used throughout the District to ensure consistency with best practices for data integrity and security.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves database server outages and service interruptions.
  • Works with IMS staff to integrate database systems with the District’s LDAP directory.
  • Protects confidentiality of information stored on systems.

 

QUALIFICATIONS GUIDE:

Knowledge of:

  • Relational database design techniques, capabilities, operation, and control including SQL database administration and SQL programming.
  • Student Information System operation.
  • Methods used in database management to organize, access, test, secure, and assess data.
  • Principles and techniques of programming using computing languages.
  • Client-server and networking principles, concepts, and techniques.

 

Ability to:

  • Program and administer SQL databases.
  • Analyze and evaluate information processing problems, plans, procedures and requirements for database management systems.
  • Analyze the information needs, problems, and procedures of other departments to design or recommend databases to meet information system requirements.
