DESCRIPTION OF POSITION: Provide the educational leadership of an elementary school; responsible for direction and success of the instructional program, operation of school plant/site; and participate in staff, pupil and community activities. Provides district-wide management and supervision for assigned programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Duties may include, but not limited to the following duties: Key areas of responsibilites are: staff development; staff evaluation; community relations; and basic operations. Interprets and applies state, district policies, laws, regulations and procedures. Directs and assists staff in planning and implementing effective instructional programs, including categorical and grant programs. Promotes professional growth and morale of assigned staff. Directs educational activities by implementing prescribed programs, direction of instructional methods, use and control of equipment, implementing prescribed programs, direction of instructional methods, use and control of equipment, control of curriculum standards, and direction of support and special services. Direct and coordinate activities of support personnel including secretaries, custodians and aides. Interpret school curriculum to parents and community through a variety of activities. Maintain a level of professional competence sufficient to provide relevant and appropriate directions to the staff. Promote community use of facilities in accordance with district policies. Maintain documents and records as required and necessary for the direction, planning, implementation and evaluation of the total educational program. Perform district-wide program management and supervision for assigned programs. The Superintendent will assign each Principal additional district-wide program duties annually. District-wide program management and supervision includes budget development and monitoring; program applications, evaluation and record keeping; selection, staff development and evaluation of program funded employees; planning and supervising of program activities; and program liaison to the Monterey County Office of Education, other school districts and the community. Other duties as assigned by the Superintendent. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Incorporated within one or more of the essential functions of the position are the essential physical requirements. Ability to see for purposes of observing teachers and support staff and reading materials, reports, budgets and other printed matter. Ability to understand speech at normal levels in person or on the telephone. Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand a normal conversation in person or on the telephone. Ability to operate equipment, computer, copy machine and other office equipment with dexterity. Ability to occasionally lift/carry supplies and printed materials weighing up to 25 pounds. WORKING CONDITIONS: Office work environment subject to sitting at a desk for long periods of time, bending, crouching or kneeling at files, pushing/pulling of file drawers and reaching in all directions. PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS: Valid California Teaching credential. Valid California administrative credential. Master's degree in education administration. Four years successful elementary classroom teaching experience. Two years building level administrative experience. EVALUATION: The Principal is responsible to the Superintendent and will receive an annual written formal evaluation from the Superintendent.
