Sacramento Country Day School, a leader in Pre-Kindergarten - 12th grade independent school education since 1964, seeks a Teaching Assistant 2021-2022 to join our Lower School team of educators. Serving more than 500 students, Country Day’s mission is to “inspire intellectual discovery and engage a diverse community to think critically, live creatively, and act compassionately.“ An ideal position for a retired or newly minted classroom teacher, our next Teaching Assistant will support the work teachers, lead learning groups at the direction of the teachers, provide supervision on the playground and at lunch, occasionally cover the whole class as needed for the teacher to attend meetings, prepping materials, and assist in classroom activities. Requirements The successful candidate will have the following attributes: • Bachelor’s degree (could be in progress) • Success working with children in a classroom setting • Patience, kindness, and an overtly warm manner with children • Ability to set boundaries with children in a firm but loving way • Ability to support the social-emotional growth of students and support problem-solving and conflict resolution • Ability to run a learning group or activity with direction from the classroom teacher, but also have the sense of initiative to devise and lead activities. • Confidence taking over whole class activities on occasion with a lesson plan from the teacher School requirements (background check, first Aid/CPR, negative TB result, etc.). Hours are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday - Friday. Sacramento Country Day School teachers are active in the school community, many serving as advisors, trip chaperones, and coaches.
